3.1 turning effect (Moment)
What is moment?
Moment is a turning effect of force applied on an object.
Moment is also called Torque.
Practical example:
It is difficult to tighten a nut with your finger. But, with a spanner, you can produce
larger force. The turning effect will be greater if:
i. You increase the force
ii. You use longer spanner.
Direction of Moments are described as:
Moment of
force = force  Clock wise
 Anti-clock wise

The SI UNIT of moment is Nm.

Law of equilibrium (being in state of balance)
If the object is in equilibrium:
 The sum of all clock wise moments is equal to the sum of all anticlockwise moments.
 The principle of moment must apply.
