Whitewater rafting, a recreational outdoor activity where you ride an inflatable
raft to navigate the wild current of a river is one of the most exciting things you can try
in the Philippines. Getting thrown off your raft and good teamwork is part of the
whitewater rafting experience.
In the Philippines, there are several places where you can go whitewater rafting.
The two most popular whitewater rafting destinations are Cagayan de Oro in
Mindanao and Kalinga in Luzon.
Cagayan de Oro is known as the Adventure Capital of the Philippines.
Whitewater rafting in Cagayan River is the top activity among all Cagayan de Oro
tourist spots. It offers rapids with varying grades that suit everyone, from beginners to
whitewater rafting experts.

How to get there:
There is no direct connection from Borongan City to Cagayan de Oro City.
However, you can take the minivan to Tacloban, take the walk to VS Grand Tours
Tacloban, take the Mini Van to Ormoc, take the walk to Ormoc, take the ferry to Cebu,
take the walk to Cebu, then take the car ferry to Cagayan de Oro. Alternatively, you
can take a vehicle from Borongan to Cagayan de Oro via Tacloban, Baybay, Baybay,
Butuan, and Butuan in around 24h 15m.

Via Air Travel

From Cebu take a direct flight (PAL, Cebu Pacific, CebGo or AirAsia ) from
NAIA/Mactan-Cebu Airport to Laguindingan Airport. At the airport, ride a bus going to
the city proper. The fare is around PhP 85.00 per person. Alternatively, you can ride a
shuttle van or rent a private car/van. Renting a car/van costs around PhP 1000.00 to
PhP 1800.00.

Tour Providers:

There are a lot of tour providers of white water rafting you can find online. Their rates
usually start around PhP1000 for the advance course and 700 for the basic course.
They also have some packages where lunch is included.

*The Basic Course is a 12-kilometer course and is around 3-4 hours to finish. It has
14 rapids ranging from class I-II.

*The Advanced Course is a 16-kilometer course and is around 4-5 hours to finish. It
has 21 rapids ranging from class I-II.

5. Hold the paddle properly.
6. Stay in the boat!
7. Know the proper swimming techniques.
8. Know the commands – High-Siding.
9. Never panic!
10.Listen to your guide during the safety talk and on the water.
