■ What is NHPC or Somaliland national

professional council about ?

The Somaliland National Health Professions Commission is a

statutory body with the mandate of regulating, accrediting
and licensing health facilities, health training institutions and
health workers in the country.
The Somaliland NHPC is a statutory body with the mandate of
regulating, accrediting, licensing professionals, and
addressing health workforce issues in the country. Despite
the challenges, the NHPC is a key platform for the overall
promotion of health safety standards, high quality health
care standards and a central body working on regulatory
issues in the longer term.

■ when NHPC has established ?

In 1999, an Act of the Republic of Somaliland Parliament was

passed to establish the National Health Professionals
Commission (NHPC) ; The Act defined the functions of the
Commission in order to register health professionals, health
care institutions and facilities. NHPC since its formation in
200/li>
 NHPC went through a spate of challenges that made it non
functional until 2006 when stakeholders met and re-
emphasized the need for a stronger health system regulatory
body. In 2008, efforts were made to reconstitute the NHPC
and changes were made and/or envisioned to be made to
minimize past short comings and utilize the previous positive
experiences..

■ What are the functions of Somaliland national

professional council ?

3.Give licenses to health centers that provide health

services.

4.Punishment of those responsible for foreign doctors who

make mistakes against citizens.

5.The open complaint office around the clock.

The office provide services includes:
●The licenses for health centers and doctors.
●Receive ccomplaints from doctors, especially foreign doctors.
●Monitoring health centers operating without a license.

professional :

Mission

Regulate the health professions, their education and practice,

as well as the facilities where they practice, and to provide
guidance to the health professions, policy makers, employers
and the public on the practice, education, ethics and other
professional issues in order to improve healthcare standards.
In addition, NHPC is mandated to set training and education
standards to Health Training Institutions and ensure that set
standards are met and followed.

Vision

The National Health Professions Commission for Somaliland

vision is to protect as well as witness the quality health
standards, safety and welfare of the public by save guiding the
health care professionals, health care facilities and health
training institutions.
