A. identify the structures of animals that helps them survive in their habitats
B. describe how they adapt to environmental changes
C. respect the habitat of the animals

KEYS TO PONDER!
​ Adaptation- Is a special characteristic of an organism to adjust to changing conditions
of the environment.
STRUCTURAL ADAPTATION:
​ Structural adaptation- are adjustments to physical features of organisms to help them
adapt and survive in their habitat.
BODY PARTS OF ANIMALS THAT LIVE ON LAND
​ Terrestrial animals- have structures that help them run, crawl, walk, gallop, or hop.
BODY PARTS OF ANIMALS THAT LIVE IN WATER
​ Aquatic Mammals- streamlined bodies and flippers for
easy movement in water.
​ Fins- for balance and movement

MIMICRY
​ Allows harmless animals to act, look, or sound like
poisonous, venomous, or distasteful animals to mislead
its predator.

CAMOUFLAGE
∙ Allows themselves to blend with their environment
∙ Protective coloration - blend well with their surroundings
∙ Protective resemblance- they resemble the
appearance of their background and surroundings
ANIMALS FOUND IN THE COMMUNITY
∙ Habitat- is a specific place where an animal lives and
hunts for food

BEHAVIORAL ADAPTATION
∙ Are activities and actions that animals do to survive in their
environment.

ANIMALS MOVEMENT IN A PARTICULAR HABITAT


∙ Migration- is an instinctive behavior of animals to move from one region to another and
back again
∙ Hibernation- is another instinctive behavior adaptation in response to cold weather. ∙
Estivation- is an adaptation of some animals during very hot season as they go into
state of dormancy to reduce the effects of high temperature and or drought.
