Week 4 Topics & Skilled Developed

We started off with vocabulary and grammar as usual. After feedback was done, we
moved on to discuss transitional/linking words, followed by exercises on
powerpoint. Similarly, we discussed the use of punctuation. We had to spend more time on
this as they seem to fail to understand the reasoning behind the use of punctuation. We had
to do lots of written practices using powerpoint.

Monday was types of sentences done on powerpoint. Students are fully aware of the
four types. At this stage, they are producing simple sentences but working gradually on
producing compound and complex sentences. They worked in pairs on analyzing sample
sentences followed by written exercises.

Tuesday was a day for fragmented sentences. Students had to deal with long list of
sentences to determine if these sentences are complete or incomplete. It was quite a
challenge as they did struggle with the concept of complete and incomplete sentences.

On Wednesday, we had discussed paragraph writing. The students followed a step

by step practice vis-a-vis the technicality of writing starting from a basic sentence to a
complex one.
This was an introduction with short exercise that followed the lesson. The students are fully
aware that next week is a writing practice week with emphasis on moving from simple
sentences to more complicated structure.

The students had two assignments. Some did both but the majority did not. (Please
check Week 4 report). They also had a quiz on reported speech. Results are shown in the
weekly report.
