1. Installation guidebook Joint Base Lewis-McChord units and directorates can obtain the JBLM guidebook at the JBLM Logistics Center, Building 9640 (Property Book Officer), Bay D, on Prescott Ave. just past CIF. The books are on the dock for easy access. Army Warnings on Social Media- The U.S. Army is stressing caution in the use of social media sites as the number of scam artists increases. Here are some tips: (1) do not share information that you do not want to become public; (2) verify a "friend" request by phone or other means before allowing access; (3) look closely at all privacy settings; (4) be careful about what you post about your life -- you cannot control where the information goes; (5) be cautious when listing job, military organization, education and contact information; (6) always ensure that information posted online has no significant value to the enemy; (7) closely review photos to make sure they do not give away sensitive information; (8) talk with family about operations security and what can and cannot be posted; (9) create different, strong passwords for each online account. 2. RECYCLE YOUR CANS AND WIN UNIT FUNDS: 1 AUG 31 OCT units can take their cans to the JBLM-Main recycle center to participate in the Aluminum Can Challenge. Recycle center is located behind the JBLM-Main commissary. Units are categorized as small, medium, and large. First, second and third prizes can be won by each category. 1st prize = $500, 2nd prize = $300, and 3rd prize = $200. Most Consistent Recycler of the Year will be awarded $600 for their unit fund. And, for the first time ever, Directorates can compete for $300 of activities from Northwest Adventure Center. Units must have a unit fund account with DFMWR and must also provide a unit POC with Miriam Easley at (IMWE-JLM-PWE/966-1734). 3. Temporary home to Jensen Family Health & Fitness Center Child Care. Take advantage of free onsite child care while working out at Wilson Fitness Center. For ages six weeks through 12 years, care is available on a first-come, first-served basis and appropriate activities and supervision are provided by CYS Services. For

registration requirements and information on what you need to provide for your children while participating in this program, call 253-9671254. 4. JBLM MWR mobile app: The JBLM MWR Mobile App has just been updated. Look for GPS directions to your favorite MWR facility in the Directory and the MWR Mobile Hours of Operation page. New Parent Support Program's Home Visitation Program: In addition to our many wonderful classes, the NEW PARENT SUPPORT PROGRAM also offers an innovative home visitation program, where our licensed nurses and master level social workers provide education and support to military families in their homes or at a public meeting spot on a variety of different topics. Adjusting to pre/post deployment issues,reintegration, questions about child development, family communication, resources and referral in the community? Our program serves military families with a child from pregnancy through age 5. We can also serve older children, as long as there is at least one who is in the 0-5 range. 4. Soldier Show See the best show in town Aug. 1 and 2 when the U.S. Army Soldier Show arrives at Carey Theater. Three free performances feature a musical celebration through dance, song and performances by U.S. Army Soldiers for the JBLM community. Mondays show is at 7 p.m. and Tuesdays shows are at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. 5. Thunder Alley makes Friday night fun Sounders Lanes features Thunder Alley with black lights and music from 8midnight every Friday. Just $9.95 a bowler gets you up to three hours of bowling. To reserve your lane, call 253-982-5954. 6. Go garage saling at one place: Going to garage sales is made easier with one-stop shopping Saturday, July 30! Sell or buy gently-used wares gleaned from home at the Express Store parking lot at McChord Field. FAMILY RESOURCE CENTER (FRC): The yearly reservation calendar opens for recurring Family Readiness Group (FRGs) meetings on 1 Aug 11. The doors open at 0700 and numbers will be given out. Reservations begin at 0900. One person per unit. For the evenings, the reservations will consist of TWO groups a night, one group in the kitchen/dining area and one in the conference room. Please have a couple of days in mind in case your first choice is not available. No reservations will be made over the phone. For further information call 967-9496. 8. The event will be held on August 20th 2011 at American Lake Community Club from 1000-1500.

Lakewood Family YMCA: offers programs designed specifically for kids, teens, and adults with physical and/or developmental disabilities. All programs focus on giving people with disabilities time to socialize while having fun participating in different activities. ADVENTURE CAMPS: Over 1700 military teens (1418 years old) will have an opportunity to participate (at little to no cost) in adventure camps scheduled through April, 2012. This is a program for parents and children to meet, have fun and learn about community services and events and, of course, to make new friends. Parents must remain with their children. 1. Companionship Program: ACS-EFMP partners with the Companionship Program to provide recreation and leisure opportunities for individuals with special needs. The goal is to assist the participants in finding and maintaining strong friendships by providing different activities throughout the community. 6 August Autism Awareness Walk: Join Autism Awareness Washington for their annual 1.5 mile walk around the lake in downtown Olympia to help raise awareness of Autism Spectrum Disorders, Saturday August 6th at 11am. We extend an invite to anyone who is passionate about Exceptional Families, whether you are an Exceptional Family Member (EFM), a parent/spouse of an EFM, a unit representative, Key Spouse, Senior Spouse, representative of a local school or agency, etc. The next meeting is in the Waller Hall ACS Classroom on 4 August from 3-4pm. Call 253-967-9704 if you have any questions; no RSVPs required to attend. 5. Camp JBLM 2011- The Exceptional Family Member Program is hosting Camp Joint Base Lewis-McChord 2011. Families with a special needs Family member are welcome to join the EFMP for this weekend getaway, Aug 19 - 21, at the Northwest Adventure Center. Campers will enjoy a variety of activities including fishing, swimming, a BBQ lunch, crafts and more. Space is limited for the overnight option; however, all EFMP Families are welcome to participate in the Saturday Day-camp (20

Down Syndrome Moms EFMP Enrollment Process Night OutJoin other parents who have children with Down Syndrome for their monthly Moms night Out held on the 2nd Friday evening of every month at 6:30 p.m. Contact Susan Jackson at 253-565-2266 for more details.

TRAINING and EDUCATION


1. Computer training Computer/ Electronic Accommodation Program (CAP) training will be held in Letterman Auditorium, Madigan Army Medical Center, Aug. 11 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. This training will provide information on free assistive technologies and related services, for individuals with, visual, hearing, dexterity, and cognitive disabilities. Supervisors and employees with impairments who require assistance (interpreters, etc) during these training sessions should contact Ronnie Jones at 966-0500 prior to attending training. 2. Dr Dad: (August 23 and 25 from 1400-1600) Join other dad's to learn the basics of taking care of your child; how to keep them safe, how to attune to your child's well being, and care for them when they are sick or injured. This class is provided by male nurses free of charge. Certificate of attendance available upon completion of class. Additionally, free child care is available with advance registration through CYS. Child must be registered with CYS to receive childcare. Call Steven Keller, RN at 253967-7409. 3. 24/7 DAD: (September 13, 15, 20, 22) New Parent Support Program is proud to offer a new 4 session class for FATHERS! Being the best dad you can be is the MOST important kind of "home improvement" you can do for your family, whether you are a new dad, single dad, or a seasoned veteran. Learn about yourself, your parenting style, and get some new tools for your toolbox while sharing with other fathers. This class is provided by male nurses, free of charge. Certificate of attendance available upon completion of class. Additionally, free child care is available with advance registration through CYS. Child must be registered with CYS to receive childcare. Call Ray Miller, RN at 253-967-7409. 4. Mental strength for Army families The Army Center for Enhanced Performance is now available to attend family resource group meetings. ACEP provides families support by teaching skills that can be used for coping with the everyday challenges of being a military spouse. ACEP also offers a variety of classes for families and family support groups. To

AFTB Classes AUG 9-10 0900-1430 Level I AUG 23-25 0900-1430 Level II Call 967-2382 (967-AFTB) to register for classes and for childcare information. Classes are held at ACS Annex, Bldg 2166, Corner of 12th St. & Liggett. Soldiers (E5 and below) can earn 4 promotion points by completing AFTB classes. 6. Parenting class- Classes for expecting parents are available the second Monday of every month, from 9 to 10 a.m., in the Sakakini Conference Room at Madigan Army Medical Center, near the Labor and Delivery Ward. This class is for all parents in need of extra help and education on resources and information. For information, call Medical Social Work at 968-2303. 7. The Defense Commissary Agency (DeCA) has introduced the new Commissary Gift Card, which is available for purchase in denominations of $25 and $50 in stateside stores or online through the Commissaries.com website. Commissary customers overseas can expect to see Commissary Gift Cards in their stores by early July. Customers there should check with their local store manager for card availability. Anyone will be able to purchase the gift cards for commissary shoppers. Online orders incur a handling fee that is not assessed to in-store orders. For customer service questions, call the toll-free phone number, 1-877-988-4438, which also allows the user to check the card balance 3. MADIGAN NEWS
1. Madigan Foundation Childcare Voucher Program The Madigan Foundation purchases hourly childcare vouchers from the Childcare Development Centers at Joint Base Lewis-McChord. These vouchers are distributed to families unable to afford childcare during behavioral health appointments at the McChord Behavioral Health Center and the FAME (Family Assistance for Maintaining Excellence) program on Ft. Lewis. Both of these programs provide behavioral health services to children, families, and spouses of active duty soldiers. Their goal is to provide families with an easily accessible and professional counseling service. Vouchers are also distributed to soldiers who need childcare assistance during appointments at the Soldiers Readiness Center as well as through psychologists seeing patients via primary care clinics at MAMC. Nisqually FMC physicals: The Nisqually Family Medicine Clinic will conduct school and sports physicals for children ages 5 to 18 years of age July 29, and Aug 5, 12, 19, 26, from 1 to 3:20 p.m. Parents must accompany children under 18 and bring childs shot records, school and CYS forms to the appointment, filled out prior to the appointment. Arrive 30 minutes early, and dress your child in shirt, shorts and shoes. Physicals are scheduled on an appointment basis only; no walk-ins will be allowed. A Hiring Heroes Career Fair will take place Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the American Lake Community Center. There will be career opportunities for Wounded, Ill, Injured and transitioning service members, Veterans, military spouses and primary caregivers. Stryker Avenue will be closed from 41st Division Drive to just short of 14th Street. Motorists are advised to get on Stryker Avenue from 41st Street heading south, take a left on Mann Street and another left on 14th Street. Detours will be in place to direct traffic. A repaving and widening project along three-fourths mile of Blaine Avenue between 5th Street and Eagle Circle is underway and completion is estimated for Sept. 2. Work hours will be between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. The stretch will be closed to traffic except to the school and adjacent areas, with guides directing vehicles through the work site. Additional traffic control will be required for short duration single lane closures along East Gate Road to allow for a safe work zone at the intersection of 4th Division and East Gate Road. More information about traffic revision updates and construction changes will come as the contractor announces them. For road conditions, call 9671733.
