Theme: BOOSTING THE COUNTRY’S RECOVERY

WITH INFORMED DECISIONS, BETTER POLICIES

To most people, the word statistics conjures up images of vast tables of confusing
numbers, volumes and volumes of figures pertaining to births, deaths, taxes, populations,
national government and so forth. In common usage the word statistics is synonymous with the
word data. In a sense this is a reasonably accurate impression because the discipline of
statistics deals largely with principles and procedures for collecting, describing, and drawing
conclusions from data are so important in restoring our economy.

This 2022, Philippine Statistics System (PSS) celebrates the 33 rd National Statistics
Months with the theme, “Boosting the Country’s Recovery with Informed Decisions, Better
Policies “ which emphasizes the critical role of statistics in crafting the most appropriate
decisions and policies that are needed to boost efforts for recovery. We as citizens must take
part in contributing factual data through agencies like the Philippine Statistics Authority. It’s
very important to speak out constructively on issues affecting your people and generation. Tell
people in authorities what our people need and want, who knows it may get to them, allow us
to become more sustainable exclusive and resilient in the face of future crises. The senate has
raised the alarm over the escalating unemployment in Philippines and called on the national
governments to declare emergency on the state of joblessness. The legislative chamber also
urged the national government, through the local government units to “put up mechanism and
programmes that would provide employment for our teeming unemployed graduates / youth
at all tier of government; and called on the National Government to initiate a sustainable
unemployment fund for the payment of living stipends to unemployed Filipinos until such
persons secure any kind of unemployed Filipinos until such persons secure any kind of
employment”. The resolutions were sequel to a motion entitled “Escalating Rate of
Unemployment in the Country” sponsored by national government of the senate. The
lawmaker, who noted that the worsening unemployment statistics in the country during
plenary, expressed concern that the large numbers of various levels of graduates churned out
by various higher institutions of learning on annual basis but who could not be absorbed by the
labour market, were a time bomb waiting to explode. Continuing, report published by the
national government statistics in 2019 states that Philippines unemployment rate stood at 2.24
% of the workforce. Any nation with such number of unemployed, but employable youth
population, is only sitting on a keg of gunpowder. The most pressing demand on the hard of
every legislator and public officer is the rising number of Curriculum vitae and application for
employments from constituents and Filipinos.

As a Filipino citizen I believe that unemployment is one of the major causes of the
upsurge in rural-urban migration, which puts pressure on facilities at the urban centres.
Unemployment is one of the major reasons in surgery, kidnapping, armed robbery, cyber
crimes and other vices are on the increase various intervention programmes by successive
governments targeted at reducing youth employment and eradicating its co-travel, poverty,
have not yielded the desired results. Therefore, it is appropriate for a text in statistical methods
to start by discussing what data are, how data are characterized and what tools are used to
describe a set of data that a situation were observed most active percentage of the nations
participating in the economic development of fatherland and from contributing toward the
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was dangerous. High level of crimes in any society is most times
related to the high rate of unemployment.

And so, what shall we do now? Aside from the 31% of voters from the youth sector as
for 2019 survey, it is our high time that we must come to numbers and decide the common
good for our country. We are shaping our Philippines based on our decisions. This E-Oratorical
contest is one of the platforms. As my mentor said, growth is intentional. If we are hopeful for
our country to grow and lean forward, we need to set objective intentions. After all, youth is
and will always be part of the nation building.

This is Norien Sabandal, a grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences student of Aquino
Integrated School, saying “ I am economically hopeful and responsible”.
