What is the role of central tendency in research?

In research, the role of center tendency is to provide an accurate description of the entire data set
and to allow researchers to determine the typical numerical point in a set of data. The data points
of any sample are distributed in a range from the lowest value to the highest value. It is the single
value that is most typical or representative of the collected data.

Where can we use central tendency in our daily

affairs?
As a student, I use the central tendency when it comes to calculating my weekly allowance. I
tend to plan a weekly budget, whether I follow it or not. Suppose every week I spend 200 pesos
on personal care, 360 pesos to pay for transportation to go to school, and 500 pesos on meals. If
you calculate the average expenditure, it comes out to be 353 using the notion of mean and 360
using the median concept. However, the median concept here is more efficient because the
nature of the data is skewed and asymmetrical. Also, because the median and the mode are the
only measures of central tendency that can be used for ordinal data, in which values are ranked
relative to each other but are not measured absolutely, the median is the most frequent value in
the data set.
