Singapore is a sunny, tropical island in South-east Asia, off the southern tip of the Malay

Peninsula. The city-state is 710 square kilometres and inhabited by five million people from four
major communities; Chinese (majority), Malay, Indian and Eurasian. Ideally positioned in South-

Singapore is a country under the Parliamentary Republic, also known as the Republic Congress.
Before 1991, the President would be elected by parliament with term of 4 years. But after the
Constitution was amended in 1991, General President is elected by the people for a term of 6
years. The current 8th President of Singapore is Ms. Halimah Binti Yacob. She is Singapore's
first female president, elected to office on September 14, 2017. Before serving as President, she
was a member of the Human Action Party. (PAP) and she also served as the 9th Speaker of
Singapore's National Assembly (January 2013 to August 2017).

The Parliament of Singapore was built on the model of British Westminster (also called the
Westminster system). Currently, the 3rd Prime Minister of Singapore is Lee Hsien Loong with a
term of 12/8/2004.

tổng thống thứ 8 hiện nay của Singapore là bà Halimah Binti Yacob. Bà là nữ tổng thống đầu
tiên của Singapore, đắc cử chức vụ vào ngày 14 tháng 9 năm 2017. Trước khi làm Tổng thống,
bà là thành viên của Đảng Hành động Nhân dân (PAP) và bà cũng từng đảm nhận cương vị Chủ
tịch Quốc hội thứ 9 của Singapore (1/2013 đến 8/2017).

Nghị viện Singapore được xây dựng theo mô hình của British Westminster (còn gọi là hệ thống
Westminster). Hiện nay, Thủ tướng thứ 3 của Singapore là Lý Hiển Long với nhiệm kì từ
12/8/2004.
