This paper describes how community mobilization can become an effective means to
address solid waste management in food counter sectors. The discussion focuses on the
Philippine setting particularly in Tarlac City.Tarlac city was a thriving city, therefore some
business investors establishing food counter business in this city. In the present day many fast-
food restaurants appeared their willingness to compete in the market. And at the same time the
emergence of this industry had huge effect. A side on producing food products they’re also
producing waste from used disposable like plastic cups, straw, spoon, fork and many more.
Some food counter restaurant practicing on reducing disposable waste more often. In order to
utilize less styro, The Jollibee Group and Chow king have transitioned to new packaging
materials washable mela ware that can be used in restaurants. Furthermore, it used a to separate
solid waste. A comprehensive process of sorting that begins in the store and continues to
secondary facilities for. Processing and recovering used materials. To begin segregation from the

The world generates 2.01 billion tons solid waste annually. In the Philippines 2.7 million
tons of plastic waste generated each year and an estimated 20 percent ends up in the ocean
(World Bank Group, 2021). Tarlac city generates approximately 265.5 metric tons of waste daily
where 51% of these wastes are biodegradable and 49% is non-biodegradable. Tarlac city local
government has scheduling waste disposal collection each day. by the used of their trucking
vehicle that operate within Tarlac, then it will be transported to dumped in Clark sanitary landfill
at the Clark special economic zone in Capas Tarlac. We all know how much the risk of these
waste brought not only in our human being but also it has a huge effect on our environment.

The solid waste problem is not just been responsibility of the city but also other parties
(Shalini, 2012). Improper solid waste disposal can impact nearby areas by absorbing pollution
and making them harmful for people and animals. It can also pollute land, water, and the air. The
effects of pollution on the global climate are equally as significant as those of the worsening
weather. Finally, unprocessed trash is a key breeding ground for serious infections like Covid 19
virus, which is even more hazardous to us.

Waste management practices in counter-service restaurants are important for protecting


customers and employees from contamination and keeping the work environment safe and clean.
Researchers are urged to conduct this study to help business owners and employees to be responsible
for disposing of waste by following the 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle). Waste management practices
have a great role in the industry not only to improve community health standards but also help
maintain the environment clean.
