3. Job Set-up
SUBTASK 32-41-11-941-050-A
A. Safety Precautions
(1) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIER(S) specified in the operator instructions
and your local regulations.
(2) In the cockpit:
(a) On the right-center instrument panel 312VU:
1 Make sure that the landing-gear control lever is in the DOWN position.
2 Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is(are) in position adjacent to the landing-
gear control lever to tell persons not to operate the landing gear.
(b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is(are) in position to tell persons not to operate
the landing-gear wheel brakes.
(3) Make sure that the safety devices are installed:.
- On the MLG doors Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-802
- On the MLG Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-801.
(4) On the right-center instrument panel 312VU, make sure that the ACCU PRESS on the triple
indicator has sufficient pressure. If necessary, pressurize the Blue hydraulic system Ref. AMM
TASK 29-00-00-863-802.
(5) Make sure that the Green hydraulic system is depressurized

(6) Make sure that the CHOCK - WHEEL(S) is(are) in position adjacent to the other
wheels.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the MLG wheels are lifted clear of the ground on jacks Ref. AMM TASK 07-12-00-
582-802.
(2) On the panel 117VU, make sure that the PARK BRK selector switch is set to the ON
position.

D. Preparation for Installation
(1) Remove the COVER - PROTECTION from the MLG axle
assembly.
(2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct
condition.
(3) Clean the component interface and the adjacent area with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton -
(Material Ref. 14SBA1) made moist with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material Ref.
08BAA9).
(4) Remove all the dust particles from the MLG
brake.
(5) Do an inspection of the MLG brake with the MLG wheel (1) removed Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-00-
200-801.
(6) Do a visual inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(7) Do an inspection of the tachometer drive-shaft assembly. Make sure that the tachometer drive
shaft:
- Has no bent or twist
- Has no fretting marks
- Has no scratches, stains and corrosion
- Is free to turn
- Has no damage on the splines and is in the serviceable condition.

If the tachometer drive-shaft assembly has wear or damage, replace it Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-
57-000-801 and Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-57-400-801.
(9) Apply a thin layer of the Grease-Thread Anti-seize Graphited and Petrolatum - (Material Ref.
03LBB1) on the splines of the tachometer drive-shaft assembly.
(10) Turn the rotating part of the Tire Pressure Indicating System (TPIS) transmitter with your
hand.
(11) Make sure that the TPIS transmitter continues to turn freely for a minimum of one full turn
.

(12) Do an inspection of the axle sleeve spring-clip to make sure that it is in the serviceable condition
and correctly installed Ref. AMM TASK 32-41-14-400-801.
(13) If the MLG brake is in the unserviceable condition, replace it Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-27-000-801
and Ref. AMM TASK 32-42-27-400-801.
(14) Do an inspection of the heat shield of the MLG wheel (1) to make sure that it is in the
serviceable condition.
(15) If the heat shield of the MLG wheel (1) is in the unserviceable condition, send the MLG wheel (1)
to the workshop.
(16) If the brake rotors are not aligned, do the steps that follow:
(a) On the panel 117VU, set the PARK BRK lever to the OFF
position.
(b) Align the brake
rotors.
(c) On the panel 117VU, set the PARK BRK lever to the ON
position.
(17) Make sure that:
- The anti-rotation splines of the axle sleeve are aligned with the slots of the axle
- The axle sleeve is fully engaged on the axle Ref. AMM TASK 32-41-14-400-801.

WARNING: YOU MUST ONLY APPLY A VERY SMALL QUANTITY OF GREASE. A VERY HOT
BRAKE CAN CAUSE THE GREASE TO BURN AND CAUSE A FIRE.
(18)
(a) Apply a layer of the Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened -
(Material Ref. 03GBB1) or the Synthetic Oil base Grease-Landing Gear Wheel Bearing
Lithium Thickened - (Material Ref. 03GCB1) on the axle sleeve (only where the MLG
wheel bearings touch the axle sleeve) when the MLG wheel (1) is installed.
(b) Remove the unwanted grease from the axle sleeve with a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton -
(Material Ref. 14SBA1).

CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE AND INSTALL THE WHEELS. IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL,
YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE BRAKES.
4. Procedure

NOTE: If the MLG wheel (1) has a pressure-sensor seal cap, make sure that it is correctly installed and
safetied with a nut and a cotter pin.

SUBTASK 32-41-11-420-050-B
A. Installation of the MLG Wheel

WARNING: BEFORE YOU INSTALL/REMOVE THE GSE TOOL, READ THE MANUFACTURER'S
INSTRUCTIONS, AND, WHILE YOU OPERATE THIS TOOL, CAREFULLY OBEY
THEM. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO
EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
(1) If the GUIDE CONE-WHEEL (M47381) is installed on the threads of the axle, remove it.
(2) Examine the parts that follow:
- The threads of the
axle
- The threads of the GUIDE CONE-WHEEL (M47381)
- The threads of the MLG axle nut (3).
(a) If one or more part(s) is (are) damaged, contact Airbus.
(3) Apply a thin layer of the Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material
Ref. 03GBB1) or the Synthetic Oil base Grease-Landing Gear Wheel Bearing Lithium Thickened
- (Material Ref. 03GCB1) on:
- The threads of the
axle
- The threads of the GUIDE CONE-WHEEL (M47381)
- The threads of the MLG axle nut (3)
- The thrust face of the MLG axle nut (3).
(4) Remove the unwanted grease with the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material Ref. 14SBA1) made
moist with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material Ref. 08BAA9).
(5) Install the GUIDE CONE-WHEEL (M47381) on the threads of the axle.

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THIS EQUIPMENT. THIS


EQUIPMENT IS HEAVY (MORE THAN 12 KG (26.5 lb)) AND CAN CAUSE INJURY
AND/OR DAMAGE.

CAUTION: YOU MUST BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN YOU ALIGN THE WHEEL WITH THE AXLE.
IF THE WHEEL IS NOT ALIGNED CORRECTLY WITH THE AXLE, THERE IS A RISK
THAT THE WHEEL BEARINGS AND SEALS WILL COME OUT OF THEIR HOUSING.
THIS WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE WHEEL BEARINGS AND SEALS, THE
LANDING GEAR AND/OR THE WHEEL.
(6) Put the MLG wheel (1) in the correct position with the TOOL-R I WHEELS (98F32401001000) or
the STANDARD WHEEL R AND I DOLLY (98F32401001000 TYPE).
(7) Make sure that the outboard and inboard seals of the MLG wheel (1) are correctly installed.
(8) Fully push the MLG wheel (1) on the MLG axle and remove the TOOL-R I WHEELS (
98F32401001001) or the STANDARD WHEEL R AND I DOLLY (98F32401001000 TYPE) from
the MLG wheel (1).
(a) Make sure that the MLG wheel (1) and the axle are fully aligned (to decrease the risk of
damage during the installation of the MLG wheel (1)).
(9) Remove the GUIDE CONE-WHEEL (M47381) from the threads of the axle. Clean and safety it
in the tool box.
(10) Examine the threads of the axle.
(11) Hold the MLG wheel (1) against its support.

(12) Install the MLG axle nut (3) on the threads of the
axle.
(13) Turn the MLG axle nut (3) clockwise until it touches the interface of the MLG wheel (1), then turn
it half a turn with your hand only.
(14) On the panel 117VU, set the PARK BRK selector switch to the OFF
position.
(15) Examine the socket of the MLG axle nut (3) and do a check of the SPANNER-AXLE NUT, MLG (
460007011).
(16) Turn the MLG wheel (1) clockwise at a constant speed while you TORQUE the MLG axle nut (3)
to between 514.9 and 569.1 m.N (379.72 and 419.69 lbf.ft) (seating torque value).
(17) Stop the MLG wheel (1) that you turned.
(18) Turn the MLG wheel (1) counterclockwise at a constant speed.
(19) Loosen the MLG axle nut (3) while you make sure that the MLG axle nut (3) always touches the
MLG-wheel bearing face.

NOTE: It is necessary to loosen the MLG axle nut (3) only until the MLG axle nut (3) starts to
move with your hand. A maximum turn of 180 degrees is permitted with your hand.
(20) Stop the MLG wheel (1) that you turned.
(21) Turn the MLG wheel (1) clockwise at a constant speed while you TORQUE the MLG axle nut (3)
to between 289.75 and 320.25 m.N (213.68 and 236.17 lbf.ft) (final torque value).
(22) Stop the MLG wheel (1) that you turned.
(23) If the locking holes of the MLG axle nut (3) and the holes of the bolts (2) are aligned, do the step
(28).
(24) If they are not aligned, turn the MLG wheel (1) clockwise at a constant speed while you tighten
the MLG axle nut (3). Do this procedure until the locking holes of the MLG axle nut (3) and the
holes of the bolts (2) are aligned. Do not TORQUE the MLG axle nut (3) more than 440 m.N
(324.48 lbf.ft) (maximum torque value).
(25) Stop the MLG wheel (1) that you turned.
(26) If the locking holes are not aligned, do the steps (19) thru (26).
(27) Install the bolts (2), the washers (8) and (4) and the new IPC-CSN(32-11-14-20 ITEM 060)
NUTS (5).
(28) TORQUE the nuts (5) to between 4.0 and 4.5 m.N (35.40 and 39.82 lbf.in).

WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN.
EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT
IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
(29) Safety the nuts (5) with the new IPC-CSN(32-11-14-20 ITEM 050) COTTER PINS (6).
(30) Turn the MLG wheel (1) with your hand to make sure that it is correctly
installed.

B. Close Access
(1) Install the brake fan Ref. AMM TASK 32-48-53-400-801.
(2) If you have replaced the MLG wheel and the MLG wheel has the TPIS sensor already installed
on it:
- Make sure that you torque the TPIS sensor to the correct value Ref. AMM TASK 32-49-16-
400-801.

The TPIS sensor is installed on the TPIS sensor holder in the shop with a less torque
value. This torque value is for testing only and not for the installation of the TPIS on the
aircraft.
