BUSINESS CHALLENGE
Companies carrying out building work today are under pressure to comply with local
regulations regarding structural integrity and safety. It is particularly important for
them to be able to insure themselves again future risk of defects. Though ten-year
insurance policies are generally available, insurance companies are demanding that
independent technical controls are carried out to formally measure risk and validate
warranties.
SOLUTION
What is Technical Building Control?
The main aim of Building Technical Control is to help ensure the structural integrity and safety of new buildings
under construction. All parts of construction are covered, from foundations, flooring, walls and roofing to
installations.
Compliance with relevant regulations is monitored, from design phase through to building completion, by conducting
design reviews and on-site inspections. As well as helping to meet local regulations, other necessary specifications
may also be taken into account such as specific insurance company requests.
OUR APPROACH
A dedicated team of Bureau Veritas experts oversees construction
from start to finish. Technical controls are carried out at design phase
through every building stage until completion, with design reviews and
on-site inspections taking place at key stages.
The scope of service offered depends upon local regulations and the
specific risks covered by the client company’s insurer.
FAQ
Does Technical Control involve a complete check of all
construction elements?
No, audits are carried out on a sampling basis. This has been proven
to be an effective and cost-effective way to identify non-conformities.
Does Technical ControI also cover insurance of
the construction site itself?
No, this only covers the future risks relating to construction, once
a building has been completed. Companies still have to take out
insurance on on-site building work. The two issues are separate
and unrelated.
