Acharya Mahamahopadhyaya Brahmasri Avadhani Chirravuri Srirama Sarma

Ashtavadhanas in both Telugu and Sanskrit languages, across the nation. An
exceptional orator, Dr Sarma’s discourses and Purana Pravachanams are most

titles on him. He has contributed immensely to popularizing aspects
connected to Sanatana Dharma. His speeches have been brought into
volumes on Sri Ramayana, Sri Mahabharata Srimadbhagavatam etc. He
is a household name in both the states especially. He will be addressing

Brahmasri L.V.Subrahmanyam garu is a well reputed IAS officer (Retd) with
an impeccable record of commendable services to the Telugu states for over

Minister. His strategic vision in proposing initiatives in diverse zones,
intellectual elision to address the abstract, precision in managing projects
to valuable conclusions is highly inspiring. The list is endless to
acknowledge his initiatives within the areas of development for tribals or
technological innovations to benefit communities. He is distinguished
himself with selfless service and won several accolades for the state and for

Cell for Indian Sciences and Technologies in Sanskrit (CISTS) IIT Bombay

Brahmasri Dr. Krishnamurthi Ramasubramanian is an Institute Chair Professor

at the Cell for Indian Science and Technology in Sanskrit, Indian Institute of
Technology Bombay. He holds a doctorate in Theoretical Physics, a Master’s
in Sanskrit and a Bachelor’s in Engineering. He has also undergone a 14-
semester rigorous course on Advaita Vedanta and was awarded the coveted
title ``Vidvat Pravara” by the Acharya of Sringeri for this accomplishment in
2003.

His area of research has been primarily focused to bring out the major
contributions of the Kerala School of Astronomy and Mathematics which
flourished in the medieval period. He has been associated with the preparation
of edition, translation, and detailed explanatory notes of the three most
important works of Kerala School, viz. Tantrasaṇgraha, Gaṇitayuktibhāṣā and
Karaṇapaddhati, which have brought out the pioneering contributions of
Kerala school in the development of mathematics of infinite series as well as
proposing better models for describing the motion of the Mercury and Venus
— a couple of centuries before their emergence in Europe.In 2019 he also got
elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy. One of his short
video clips posted on the web, pertaining to the computation of Pi, has
garnered more than 1.3 million views!

TOPIC: Connection between Mathematics & Prosody (गणितछन्दः शास्त्रय ः सम्बन्धः )

It is quite intriguing to note that there is a deep connection between mathematics and prosody (Chandas-sastra) as
developed and systematized in the Indian tradition at least 2500 years ago, which is evident from the work of
Pingalacharya also referred to as Pingala-naga. Some of the famous and fascinating things that we learn in the
school, that goes by the name Pascal’s triangle, Fibonacci series, etc. seem to be naturally arising when we study the
various patterns that can be generated using the `laghu’ (short) and `guru’ (long) syllables. This has been nicely and
succinctly delineated in his treatise by Pingalacharya. Particularly during the presentation, we shall be focusing on
the mathematical techniques that can be found in the 8th chapter of his text.

Brahmashri Shriramana Sharma is a practicing agnihotri teaching at the

Vidyasthanam at the Nerur Shankara Matam of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. He
has studied Vedanta, Vyakarana, Mimamsa, Shulba Sutra and Veda Bhashya
under the guidance of leading scholars in the respective fields. Vedanga
Shiksha Shastra and Jyautisha are his special interests. In the latter
connection, he serves as the Convener of the Panchanga Sadas in the Kanchi
Kamakoti Peetam. Apart from traditional qualifications, he is a double MA
holder in Samskrita and Linguistics and did his PhD in Mimamsa which is a
form of Vedic Linguistics. He is committed to technology development for
Indic needs and has especially worked a lot on proper representation of rare
Bharatiya scripts in computers via Unicode.

TOPIC: The need to rejuvenate Vedanga Shiksha Shastram

Vedanga Shiksha Shastram (as against the modern usage of the word Shiksha Shastram for Education studies) is a
well-developed ancient form of phonetics, arising from the need to accurately preserve the pronunciation of the
Veda mantras. We find that the ancients have accurately identified the organs involved in pronunciation and their
efforts. Their results are in line with measurements made with instruments of today. They have also developed a
framework called Varna krama for describing sounds. The difficulty is that each text follows a somewhat different
way of presenting the same concepts and hence the terminology is not entirely standardized. Further, the current
traditional studies of this Shastra are not as rigorous or popular unlike other shastras like Vyakarana. However, with
some effort and by comparing with (but not blindly mimicking) modern phonetics, a meaningful tradition-based and
comprehensive framework may be developed that, with due application, can cover the targets of all Shiksha and
Pratishakhya texts.

TRADITIONAL EDUCATION MODERN EDUCATION

Brahmashri Shriramana Sharma is a practising agnihotri

On the modern academic side, he has master's degrees in
Samskrita and Linguistics and completed his Ph D in
Samskrita. He is also committed to technology development
for Indic needs, developing various tools and keyboards for
Indian scripts. His interest in scripts led him to developing
many Unicode proposals for Grantha and other scripts and
participating in Government panels towards ensuring proper
Unicode representation of various rare written forms. He was
awarded the Unicode Bulldog award from the Unicode
Consortium for his contributions. He is also a gifted poet and
has written many scholarly verse compositions and gitams in
Samskritam.

leveraging his background in computational science. He has been an active
participant in the Shri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham Panchaanga Sadas since
2019, and also computes daily panchaangas for the Veda Dharma Shastra
Paripalana Sabha (VDSP Kumbhaghonam), and Ashtangam (an almanack with
eight components). He has co-developed open-source repositories for
panchaanga computation and a massive database of rules for festival

TOPIC: Leveraging modern technologies to enable accurate panchanga computations

In this presentation, I will briefly introduce the basic ideas of panchaanga computation, and motivate the importance
of location-specific panchaanga computation. It is common for a number of people to use a traditional
almanack/panchaanga, typically computed for a location such as Kanchipuram, Mumbai or Ujjain. Yet, numerous
festival observances, such as an ekadashi vratam or shraaddha tithi, change from one location to another,
demanding accurate local computations of the same. A number of modern-day technologies, such as the Swiss
ephemerides, which provide accurate positions of various celestial objects (grahas), high-level programming
languages, and typesetting languages, can be leveraged to greatly facilitate such local panchaanga computation.
The ease of computation of festival observances, often with complex rules, through systematic computational logic
enables location-specific computation of festivals at a scale not easily possible before. I will also provide additional
examples of how combining a number of simple technologies can facilitate both computation of correct location-
specific festival observances and easier dissemination.

Bank, Asian Development Bank, DANIDA, CIDA, Colombo Plan Stagg college –
Manila, and more than 60 industries in Indian and abroad. He chaired 40
international conferences and presented technical papers in 54 countries
around the world. He brings with him 45 years of his rich international
experience in publication, training, research, consultancy and advocacy.

TOPIC: Relevance of Homam or Yagyam or Agnihotram in the past, present and future
A Case Study of Chandi Homam At Sridevi Veda Vidyalayamu, Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh

The Vedic system considers Homam or Yagyam or Agnihotram as the key to attain and maintain sustainable ecological
development. In this paper, an attempt was made to present the study and evaluation of the environmental aspects of
performing Chandi homam at Sri Devi Veda Vidyalayamu, Srisailam, Andhra Pradesh. Three high volume samplers were used in
this study at three different points in and around homa kundam to collect the gaseous and particulate samples. Samples of
bottom ash collected from eastern, southern, western and northern parts of homa kundam were analyzed for heavy metals using
an Atomic absorption spectrophotometer (AAS). The results of analysis of particulate samples for heavy metals clearly showed
very high concentrations of Zinc (Zn). The results of analysis of bottom ash for heavy metals showed mainly Lead (Pb) within
permissible limits and Manganese (Mn) slightly in excess of permissible limits. The experimental results clearly demonstrated
that the emissions during homam are not only non-toxic but also are beneficial to the environment, which is well in agreement
with the literature. The present study was limited to a limited scope in limited time. Subsequent studies proved the beneficial
effects of various homams in:
• purification of the surrounding areas by reducing the virulence of viruses, pathogens etc.
• reducing concentration of CO2, CO and harmful particulates in the area
• producing anti-cancerous and anti-oxidant gases,
• producing nutrients to the soil and plant life
• improving the health and well- being of earthworms, bees, animals and human beings.
• However, the scope of research studies in this area is very vast and may transform the future.

TOPIC: The Science Behind Ayurveda Sastra

The scientific background for the classification of foods in the ancient Ayurvedic texts is substantiated with the support
of modern literature. The nutritive values of these foods are also provided on the basis of available information.
This work also deals with the indigenous methods of food processing in ancient India. Various puddings and their role in
