HOW DOES IT OPERATE?


Directions: Choose a product you are interested in. Then, conduct research to answer
the following questions. If you cannot find the answer to a question, use what you’ve
learned about the operations function to put yourself in an operations manager’s place,
then make an educated guess. When you have finished your research, share your
findings with your instructor, either through a verbal report or in a written, one-page
paper.

1. Where is the product produced? The Coca-Cola Company headquarters in


Atlanta.
2. What factors likely played a part in this choice of location? The contribution of a
location's distinctive physical features to the way the soda tastes is known as
terroir.
3. What is the layout of the facility where this product is produced? The company
generates revenue by selling concentrates and syrups to bottling facilities
globally and by selling finished products to retailers and other distributors.
4. What materials must be purchased to produce this product? Carbonated water,
sugar, Caramel Colour.
5. How is quality control conducted for this product? The Coca Cola bottling plant
also checks the utilisation level of each production line using a scorecard
system.
6. What inventory control needs does the maker of this product have? Inventory
management.
7. How does the maker of this product handle logistics (storage and transportation)?
Trucks are, by far, the most common way to move goods in the supply chain.
8. How do routing and scheduling fit into this good’s operating system? Coca-cola
depends on its management teams, quality control process as well as
production policies.
9. What safety and security concerns are associated with making this product? The
problems faced by Coca-Cola Company are high sugar harmful to health,
increase in competitors, plastic bottle waste and water scarcity.
