Bible Verses For Kids
Bible Verses For Kids
Scripture?
God speaks to us through His Word, through the Holy Spirit, and also
sometimes through other Christians. He has given us everything we need in the
Bible, so we always need to go back to it’s truth. Memorizing Scripture is a
great way to know God’s Word and be able to use it in everyday life.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord,
plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Psalm 19:14 “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my
heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.”
Psalms 28:7 “The Lord is my strength and my shield;in him my heart
trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I give thanks to
him.“
Psalms 119:133 “Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let
no iniquity get dominion over me.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on
your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will
make straight your paths.”
Isaiah 40:31 “but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their
strength;they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not
be weary;they shall walk and not faint.”
1 Corinthians 2:2 “For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus
Christ and him crucified.”
As moms, unless we prioritize our relationship with God, it can easily fall by the
wayside. Learn more about growing closer to God. As we grow closer to Him,
we become a better wife and mother as well.
Verse cards. This is a classic. Simply write (or have your child write if
they’re older) the verse on an index card and place it where you can
review it with them throughout the day.
Phrase by phrase. Have your child say the first phrase of the verse several
times and then add the next phrase. Then have them put the two phrases
together before adding the next phrase until the verse is memorized.
Use motion. We sometimes come up with hand motions that match each
phrase of the verse. This helps the child remember what comes next. You
can also act out the verse in some way.
Dry erase board. Write out the verse and then erase more and more of the
words until they can say it all.
Use an app. Fighter Verses is a great app for Scripture memory. There is
a section for kids with a picture to go with each verse.
Fun ways to memorize Scripture
This isn’t to say the above ways can’t be fun, but in my experience, the
following ways seem to give a bit more motivation, or else they’re not even
really pay attention to the fact that they’re learning verses.
Say it silly. Come up with funny accents or be silly while you practice the
verse.
Play a game. Bounce a ball, play ball toss, or jump while saying each
word or phrase of the Bible verse. Action often can help kids learn better.
Awana. The Awana program is at churches or chapels all over the country
and even worldwide. This program is fantastic and really encourages kids
3 and up to learn Bible verses. My kids have been involved in it for quite
a few years now.
Sing the verse. You can make up your own songs if you’d like, but there
are several resources out there with straight Scripture songs. Many kids
LOVE to listen to songs while they play, so what better way to help them
learn God’s Word while they do so. Seeds of Worship is a great one with
many different volumes available. Hide ‘Em in Your Heart, Songs for
Saplings, and Sing the Word are other great options.
Parent Challenge
I’m pretty sure you can guess what this challenge is. If you’re not already
memorizing verses, I challenge you to learn verses alongside your children.
Bible memory verses aren’t just for kids. We all need to hide God’s Word in our
hearts. I love using the Fighter Verses app, but do whatever works for you and
your family. If you have some other great ideas for memorizing Scripture,
please be sure to let me know in the comments below.
