SULFUR BASED OXIDES

 Natural sources: Bacterial oxidation: H2S + 3O2 2SO2 + 2H2O

 Anaerobic oxidation of Cellulose and waste

SULFUR BASED OXIDES

 Manmade Source: Combustion of low-grade coal

 Iron pyrites industries
 Refining of petrol and synthetic gas

Cu2S + 2O2 2CuO + SO2

Formation of Sulphuric acid:

I)SO2 + O2 2SO3

I)SO3 +H2O H2SO4

NITROGEN MONOXIDE (NO) AND NITROGEN DIOXIDE (NO2)

 Natural sources like forest fires and bacterial action on organic matter produce NOx gas.
 Combustion of fuel used in automobiles, aeroplanes and rail engines produce high amount of NOx gas.
 Burning of natural gas, coal, Oil and wood in furnace also produce high NOx .
 Manufacturing of HNO3 and forest fires leads to liberation of high amount of NOx.

N2 +2O2 2NO2

N2 +O2 2NO
