(1) Boom priority mode

When the bucket is loaded, the bucket is moved to the dump location by simultaneous operations of BOOM
RAISE, STICK OUT and SWING. After the bucket is unloaded at the dump location, the bucket is moved to
the original position by simultaneous operations of BOOM LOWER, STICK OUT and SWING. This is one
cycle of the loading operation.

For loading operations, the work mode switch should be placed in BOOM PRIORITY MODE position (1). This
activates the logic valve. Oil flows from both pumps to the swing circuit and to the boom circuit. The boom
circuit receives priority. While the machine is in the BOOM PRIORITY MODE position, the boom will raise
faster.

(14) will operate in the following manner.

z Front pump oil flows through parallel feeder passage (12). The front pump oil separates into two flow
paths. One path flows through control valve (4) and line (2) to the boom cylinders. The other path flows
through control valve (5), line (11), passage (8) and control valve (7) to the stick cylinder.

z Rear pump oil flows through parallel feeder passage (3). The rear pump oil separates into three flow
paths. One path flows through swing control valve (10) to the swing motor. The second path flows
through logic valve (9), passage (8) and control valve (7) to the stick cylinder. The third path flows
through control valve (6), line (1) and line (2). The rear pump oil combines with front pump oil in line (2)
and flows to the boom cylinders.

The boom cylinders and stick cylinder are supplied oil from both pumps. The boom moves up faster in order to
clear the site after digging. The rear pump supplies oil to the swing motor. The one pump flow slows down the
swing speed. The swing speed is slowed down in order to allow more time for the bucket to raise.

(14) Rear pump

In a loading operation that involves BOOM LOWER, STICK OUT and SWING, front pump (13) and rear
pump (14) will operate in the following manner.

z Front pump oil flows through parallel feeder passage (12). The front pump oil then separates into two
flow paths. One path flows through control valve (4) to the boom cylinders. The other path flows through
control valve (5), line (11), passage (8) and control valve (7) to the stick cylinder.

z Rear pump oil flows through parallel feeder passage (3). The rear pump oil separates into two flow paths.
One path flows through swing control valve (10) to the swing motor. The other path flows through logic
valve (9), passage (8) and control valve (7) to the stick cylinder.

In this type of a loading operation, the stick cylinder is always supplied with oil from the front pump and the
rear pump. The combined pump flow allows the stick to move at an optimum speed. This also ensures the
optimum speeds of the swing and boom.

Leveling Operation
Introduction

The leveling operation is used to level a ground surface with high accuracy. The leveling operation is done by
using the combined movement of the boom and stick. Fine movements of the boom and the stick are used
during the leveling operation.

(2) Fine control mode

Leveling operations are done slowly. Power mode switch (1) is turned to the STANDARD MODE position for
light work. Fine control mode (2) is turned to the ON position. The pump supplies oil individually to each
function of the boom and stick circuits. The operations of the boom and stick cylinders will not affect each
other.

(13) Rear pump

When the boom and stick control levers are partially moved to the BOOM RAISE position and STICK IN
position, front pump (12) and rear pump (13) operate in the following manner.

Turn the fine control mode to the ON position. Solenoid valve (10) is energized. This causes the center bypass
passage in control valve (5) to remain open.

z Part of the front pump oil in parallel feeder passage (9) flows through control valve (4) to boom cylinders
(2). The remainder of the front pump oil in parallel feeder passage (9) flows through center bypass
passage (3), control valve (4) and control valve (5) to the hydraulic tank.

z Part of the rear pump oil in center bypass passage (7) flows through control valve (6) to stick cylinder (1).
The remainder of the rear pump oil in center bypass passage (7) flows through control valve (8) to the
hydraulic tank.

The boom and stick circuits use separate pump oil. Movement of the boom or the stick is not affected by the
movement of other implements during fine control operation. Main pump oil that is not used for BOOM RAISE
and STICK IN returns to the hydraulic tank. This ensures an exact fine control operation.

When the control lever is moved to the BOOM LOWER position in the fine control mode, part of the front
pump oil flows to the boom cylinder. The remainder of the front pump oil flows through control valve (5) to the
hydraulic tank. This happens because the center bypass passage in control valve (5) remains slightly open.
Thus, the oil pressure in the BOOM LOWER operation becomes lower than the normal pressure setting of the
relief valve.

Trenching Operation

A ditch should be of rectangular shape. The wall of the ditch pushes on the bucket. This force causes the bucket
to move away from the wall of the ditch.

(1) Swing priority mode

To attain a wall that is straight and vertical, an additional side force must be used to hold the bucket against the
side wall. This is done by applying partial swing in the direction of the wall. The swing priority mode provides
the appropriate partial swing force for an exact trenching operation.

To activate the swing priority mode, place switch (1) in the ON position. Front pump oil flows to the boom
circuit, to the stick circuit and to the bucket circuit. Rear pump oil is supplied only to the swing circuit. This
causes the oil pressure in the swing circuit to remain high enough to supply a force against the side wall of the
ditch.

When the implement control levers are moved to the BOOM RAISE, STICK IN, BUCKET CLOSE or SWING
position, the pumps will flow in the following manner.

Turn the swing priority mode to the ON position. Solenoid valve (11) is energized. This causes logic valve (7)
to remain closed.

z Front pump oil flows through parallel feeder passage (10). The front pump oil then separates into three
flow paths. One path flows through bucket control valve (3) to the bucket cylinder. The second path flows
through control valve (4) to the boom cylinders. The third path flows through control valve (5), selector
valve (9) and line (1). The front pump oil then flows through control valve (6) to the stick cylinder.

z Rear pump (14) oil flows through parallel feeder passage (2) and swing control valve (8) to the swing
motor.

In a trenching operation by activating the solenoid valve for swing priority mode, the swing motor is supplied
oil from the rear pump. The generated torque from the swing motor holds the bucket against the side wall of the
ditch. The boom circuit, the stick circuit and the bucket circuit share the front pump oil in an optimum manner.

Tamping Operation
Introduction

When the bottom of the bucket is used for compacting or smoothing the ground, the boom needs to operate
easily.

The boom must be able to raise slowly and lower slowly. In order to select the tamping mode, push user mode
switch (3). Display (1) will display "U1" in the right side digits. When the boom is raised or lowered the pump
output will change in order to make the tamping easy.

When the control lever is moved to the BOOM RAISE position, the pumps will flow in the following manner.

When the tamping mode is selected travel speed solenoid valve (14) is energized. This shifts stroke limiter (7)
of control valve (6). Center bypass passage (8) is opened. Also, solenoid valve (17) is energized. The oil from
shuttle valve (13) and shuttle valve (11) in pilot line (12) does not shift control valve (5). Center bypass passage
(4) is opened.

z Front pump oil flows through parallel feeder passage (10) and control valve (3) and into the boom
cylinder.

z Rear pump oil flows through center bypass passage (8) and control valve (6) and into hydraulic tank
(19) .

When the boom is raised, the oil from the rear pump does not combine with the oil from the front pump in line
(1). Rapid raising of the boom and lifting of the machine off the ground is prevented.

When the boom is lowered, oil flow from the front pump decreases and the oil pressure is restricted from line
(9) which supplies optimum force for boom lowering. This prevents the lifting of the machine by the boom
cylinders which makes tamping easier.
