03 Lesson Review: Jose Rizal’s Retraction

Instruction: Analyze the given question below and give your thoughts about it.
Will your opinions about Rizal change if you find out that he retracted?

Nothing’s changed. Every one of us has erred in life. However, that mistakes won't have
an impact on who we are or how others perceive us, especially those who know us and
believe in us. Just like the way I see Rizal. Our nation's national hero is Dr. Jose P. Rizal
(Philippines). I have been thinking about this truth ever since I began my primary school
years. Everything admirable in Rizal is communicated during conversations. I don't even
recall ever learning anything negative about Rizal from anyone. Perhaps this result from
the teachers' intention to use Rizal as an example and inspiration for their students. I
was thinking that Rizal, who goes by Pepe, is someone who never thinks of anything
other than the good of his compatriots during this time.
Jose Rizal is a man of great achievements. His many occupations as a physician-
surgeon, writer, artist, scientist, and linguist, in my opinion, illustrate that he is a true
Filipino genius. His accomplishments astound me. I find it impossible to believe that one
individual could be qualified for all of those careers, which are in fact found in many
sectors. He maintained his humility despite his great accomplishments.
We respect everyone’s decision in life.
