Program for Persons with Disabilities in Brgy.Limbahan, Lupon, Davao Oriental

A. Rationale

Sustainable Livelihood Program is a capacity-building program that

promotes livelihood and better employment prospects for the less fortunate
residents of Lupon, particularly those with impairments. This program aims to
promote the active participation of persons with disabilities in the development of
their entrepreneurial skills by enhancing their access to basic social services and
providing them with income-generating opportunities.
Growing social awareness of the condition of less fortunate persons with
disabilities prompted the government to create chances for them to realize their
potential so that they can live freely and enjoy their human rights and benefits. As
required by R.A. 7277 Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, also known as an act
providing for the Rehabilitation, self-development and self-reliance of Disabled
Persons and their integration into the mainstream of society, and for other
purposes, persons with disabilities as a unified and homogeneous group differ in
their individual abilities and aspirations, cultural affiliation, age group, access to
socio-economic opportunities, types and degrees of impairments.
As authorized by R.A. 7277, the construction of community stores is one
of many ways to provide fund recipients with opportunity to actively engage,
develop their skills, and independently enjoy their rights and benefits. Federation
Officers and members with disabilities in the Municipality of Dumalag will be
encouraged to shop at the community store for their necessities. Officers and
members of the PWD's Federation and Dumalag believe that locally owned
businesses build successful communities by preserving vibrant Town Centers
that connect neighbors through a web of economic and social links and by
contributing to local causes.
