practicing new
skills. Great!

Let me show you first the Food

Plate for Filipino Children ages 3-12
by the FNRI-DOST.

Pinggang Pinoy is a new and easy-

to-understand food guide that uses
a familiar food plate model to
convey the right food group
proportions on a per-meal basis.
This will help kids acquire healthy
eating habits needed to attain
optimum nutrition.

The guide shows the recommended

proportion by food group, Go, Grow
and Glow on per meal basis. By just
looking at the plate, one will know
right away that half of the plate
represents Glow foods consisting of
fruits and vegetables. One sixth of
the plate shows proportion for Grow
foods such as meats, eggs, poultry,
fish, beans and legumes. One third
of the plate is Go foods like rice,
corn, bread, oatmeal, bread and
root crops.

And for the recommended

proportion by food group in every
meal. Here are the Go, Grow and
Glow foods.

Food items may vary and are not

limited to the examples mentioned
above.

GO Foods contain the Grains

Group foods that provide the body
with energy. It is the first group on
MyPlate and the foundation of a
healthy diet. Children learn
that GO foods......"help me run,
jump and play all
day." "GRAINS means GO"

GROW Foods contain the Milk and

the Meat & Beans Group foods that
help the body grow and develop
strong bones and muscles. Children
learn that GROW foods...."help me
grow bigger and stronger."

GLOW Foods contain the

Vegetables and the Fruits Group
foods that supply the body with
vitamins and minerals to keep the
body healthy and functioning
properly. Children learn that GLOW
foods..."make my hair shine and
eyes sparkle."

Eating a healthy diet is not about

strict limitations, staying
unrealistically thin, or depriving
yourself of the foods you love.
Rather, it’s about feeling great,
having more energy, improving your
health, and boosting your mood.

There is strong evidence that eating

a healthy diet can reduce your risk
of obesity and diseases such as
diabetes, heart disease, stroke,
osteoporosis, and some types of
cancer.

Benefits of Healthy Eating for

Children
• Keeps skin, teeth, and eyes
healthy
• Supports muscles
• Helps achieve and maintain
a healthy weight
• Strengthens bones
• Supports brain development
• Supports healthy growth
• Boosts immunity
• Helps the digestive system
function

concepts and skills
in daily living If none, I have a question for you.

should eat some foods from each
food group at meal time. Go Foods
