Geographical In Valtierrilla, Guanajuato, "arroz con
leche" is placed in the Day of the
Indications Dead altars. Cooks add "piloncillo,"
and orange tree leaves for flavor.
Mexico's most popular In Jalisco, rice pudding is a must
dessert during lent; however, local use lime or
orange zest instead of cinnamon.
Does not belong to a geographical
indication but… In Oaxaca, people pair Mexican rice
pudding with sweet chickpeas.

In Tabasco and Chiapas, people eat


rice pudding for breakfast or dinner.

Mexico
Mexicans drink lots of milk, like salty foods more than sweet foods, eat an average of 6
tortillas every day, and have a traditional domestic diet: soup, rice, and stew, without
leaving out salsa and beans

94% of Mexicans eat lunch every day, followed by 78% for breakfast and only 64% for
dinner.

87% of the population eats chicken at least once a week, followed by red meat (79%),
eggs (77%), milk products (66%), and fish (43%).

Fun Fact: Lots of Coca Cola, Tortillas de maíz (6 per day) and beer.
EL SALVADOR
El Salvador has lived for more than a decade the phenomenon of the double burden of malnutrition.
According to the study "The consumption of food prepared outside the home".

● 65% of the adult population over 20 years of age in the country are obese or overweight: 27% in
obesity and 38% in overweight (MINSAL, 2015).

● 1 million Salvadorans suffer from diabetes and hypertension, a result of overweight or obesity,
these conditions being the ones that generate the highest health cost.

● Almost half of Salvadoran households face some degree of insecurity food and nutrition: 31% mild,
13% moderate and 5% severe.

● More than 1.5 million people are sedentary.

The 5 foods of greatest preference of Consumption are: pupusas, beans, eggs, banana and prepared
breads. Whereas, the top 5 Drinks are: coffee, chocolate, soft drink fruits, smoothies and water.

● 2 out of 3 prefer to have pupusas for breakfast.

● 7 out of 10 eat fried or roasted chicken for lunch.

● 3 out of 4, tend to repeat the consumption of pupusas at dinner.
