Abstract. This study aims to obtain the best design for hydroponic plant pH neutralizer devices with
renewable energy to be applied to existing hydroponic circuits. The test is carried out in tanks that
hold water with an acidity level of 5; 5.5; 6; 6.5; and 7. Acidity stabilization is carried out by adding a
pH-increasing solution (Potassium Hydroxide 10%) or pH-lowering (10% Phosphoric Acid) by spraying
the solution through a pump. The results showed that the sensor was able to read the acidity of the
solution in the water bath and the microcontroller was able to process the information instructing the
pump to drain the solution to return the pH to the ideal range, namely 5.5-6.5. The addition of a pH
control solution is proven to be able to stabilize the pH of water in tubs with different acidity. It can
be concluded from the results obtained that the design of the device can stabilize the pH in the water
used to match the ideal acidity level, making it easier for plants to absorb nutrients without human
assistance.

INTRODUCTION

Hydroponics is an agricultural activity that is carried out using water as a medium to replace
soil. So, hydroponics can be interpreted as an element of working or managing water as a
growing medium for plants without using soil as a planting medium and taking the mineral
nutrients needed for a nutrient solution dissolved in water. Hydroponics has many advantages
over conventional farming, including plants that can be grown at high densities and low levels
of mineral salt use, hydroponic plants mature faster without damage due to weather
disturbances or pest poisons, more plant production per unit area, more efficient use of
fertilizers, use of water is more efficient, the workforce required is less, as well as overcoming
location constraints that are impossible or/difficult to cultivate conventionally. Behind these
advantages, hydroponics also has disadvantages, namely control that must be done carefully.
Fertilizer composition, insecticide application, media sterility and regular watering should be
highlighted. This causes hydroponic treatment to require special skills to weigh and mix
chemicals. Then an idea arose to overcome challenges in hydroponic treatment, namely a tool
needed to neutralize the acidity of hydroponic plant irrigation media that is able to recognize
the acidity of the water solution and neutralize the pH so that it returns to the ideal acidity
range so that plants are able to absorb plant nutrients properly.
METHODS
To solve the problem and realize the objectives contained in the introduction chapter , it is
necessary to define research methods, namely matters related to research stages research
locations, observed/measured variables, and techniques collection and analysis of
observational data on variables and difficulties encountered.
Variable
In this study, three kinds of research variables were used, including the variable free in the
form of PH up and PH Down mixture amount. While the dependent variable is a variable that
is influenced by the independent variable in the form of the PH of the water and the time that
is needed to get the PH back to normal. The controlled variable is the volume of water. The
volume of chamber is 440 x 335 x 205 mm.

The research stages is shown in figure below this.

Materials
Work on the design stage of the tool was carried out using Solidwork 2018 SP 01 software.
The design of the water tub has dimensions of 440 mm x 335 mm x 205 mm which are
applicable to contain the water that is going to flow inside the piping bringing nutritions for
the plants

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

To ensure the system that has been designed can run effectively to maintain the PH level
of the water , the authors use reference data consisting the effectiveness of PH up and PH
down mixture in neutralizing the PH level. For the PH UP the authors use phosporic acid
combined with distilled water. And for the PH DOWN the authors use Potassium Hydroksida
combined with distilled water. This is because phosphoric acid has a PH below 7 and if mixed
can be used to lower the PH level. On the contrary, Potassium Hydroksida is use because it
has a ph level above 7 and if mixed can be used to increase the PH level

CONCLUSION
Based on the results of the discussion, it can be taken conclusion that PH UP mixture which
contains Phosporic acid mixed with distilled water can be used to decrease or lower PH level
of the circulating water. And for PH down mixture which contains Potassium Hydroksida
mixed with distilled water can be used to increase the Ph level of the circulating water. And
the sensor is connected to Arduino which is also connected to the water pump. So it can
automatically release the PH UP/PH DOWN mixture if the sensor detect changes of PH level
over the range limits
