Cystobell as narrator.

Only two true characters, Velkan and Cystobell.

Velkan: A cursed dhampir vampire hunter. Once a count in the great northern forests of Hetheim,
he has become obsessed with hunting the vampire who cursed him and murdered his family. He
doesn’t know Aspar is the same vampire and doesn’t learn this in this story. He is hunting the
vampire spawn in the city believing it is after him.
In combat he is savage. A professional duelist that has become corrupted by monstrous savagery
and literal bloodlust. Outside of combat he is grim, methodical and manipulative.
Cystobell: An archmage half-elf (secretly a full-blooded wood elf) that is roughly 500 years old.
She is responsible for defeating Aspar 400 years ago, trapping him in a coffin at the bottom of a
river. She is the target of a vampire spawn.
Cystobell is essentially a controlling villain in behavior. A very powerful wizard and nearly
always the smartest in the room. She exudes beauty (amplified by her own glamours) and good
taste.

What happens
Cystobell will need to witness both Velkan and the spawn. Velkan will appear the true predator
until the spawn makes its move. She will not be afraid of the suspicious Velkan but assume he is
one of Aspar’s minions coming to kill her. Her confusion will not be settled until Velkan kills the
vampire when it attacks and mistakenly explains it was after him. Revealing to Cystobell she
might have found a useful new tool.

Setting: The city of Somershire.

When: Goldenfields. The midpoint of summer is a day of feasting, parties, marriages, and laying
in the full fields watching the clouds. Storms on the golden night is considered a sign of woe,
some think this may be the gods’ disapproving of marriages or moves of passion inflamed by the
day of beauty.
Why:

Opening Lines:
“That man has red eyes.”
“Cystobell knew approaching before the golden night was a bad omen, she just thought it meant
she would have to skip the cloud watching. She definitely didn’t expect to see one of Aspar’s
minions sipping wine just as the sun set.
