INT. BLUE JAY'S ROOM- NIGHT

CROW and BLUE JAY are lying in bed together. Crow is unhappy
about something and Blue Jay attempts to get to the core of
her issue.
BLUE JAY
Hey. What's going on with you
lately?
CROW
I don't know what you mean.
BLUE JAY
You've been acting strange and I
can tell you're not happy. What's
wrong?
CROW
Nothing. I'm fine.
BLUE JAY
Do you remember when we first met?
CROW
Of course I remember. Owl gathered
all the kids and introduced me as a
new member of the Corvidae Posse.
BLUE JAY
Yeah and no one cared. He told us
to get to know you and all the
others walked away.
CROW
You and Raven were the only ones
who stayed. I think the only reason
Raven stayed was to size me up.
BLUE JAY
It was. But I stayed because I had
never seen anyone so beautiful. I
never even really thought about
girls until I saw you.
CROW
Shut up.
BLUE JAY
It's true. You lit a new fire in
me. And your voice, man. When you
spoke, my insides fluttered. I knew
you were different.

CROW
Different how? I was just like
everyone else; a little kid with no
home seeking something to belong
to.
BLUE JAY
You were different because you
believed in something better,
something much higher than you and
me. Something even higher than Owl.
It was like you knew you were
always going to be safe and nothing
could stop you. You had a light
inside of you that was so bright,
how could anyone ignore it? I
remember one night you didn't show
up to dinner and Owl said 'If she
doesn't want to eat then she won't
eat.' He swore if anyone gave you
food, they'd be punished. That
night left dinner early to come
find you. I looked in your doorway
and saw you kneeling on the floor
by your bed. All I could see was
your curly, brown hair and your
hands up to your face. I thought
you were crying but when I walked
in and knelt down next to you, you
looked over at me with those
mesmerizing, light brown eyes and
smiled.
CROW
I think I remember that night. You
brought me a dinner roll that you
hid under your shirt to make sure I
ate something that night.
BLUE JAY
I did, but do you remember what
happened before I gave it to you?
CROW
No.
BLUE JAY
When you looked at me and smiled, I
asked you what you were doing. You
told me you were praying. I didn't
know what praying was. I had never

heard of it. When I told you that,
you immediately grabbed my hands,
put them together and placed them
to mimic yours. You said you were
going to teach me how to pray.
CROW
I was just a kid, Frankie. I was
lonely, naive, little kid that
probably still believed in Santa
Claus.
BLUE JAY
Santa Claus is one thing. We all
believed in him at one point in our
childhood but believing in him is
much different than what you
believe in, Anna. Why don't you
pray anymore?
CROW
Because it's pointless. There's no
reason to do it.
BLUE JAY
You're wrong.
CROW
What has prayer done for me, huh?
Did it rescue me from nearly
falling off a ledge last month? No.
Raven saved me. Did it keep me from
being shot at after my cover was
blown two weeks ago? No. I handled
that situation alone. Prayer didn't
keep my parents alive so what good
is it? My devotion is to this, all
of this. And to Emmanuel Corvidae.
He saved me from the outside world.
BLUE JAY
He turned you into him, and that
isn't you, Crow. You're the best at
what you do but that is your job,
not who you are.
CROW
I'm going to bed.
BLUE JAY
Crow, listen to me. I don't know
how you can benefit from praying

but I do know that the Crow I knew
was kind, funny, compassionate and
fair. That is how you were when you
believed. The Crow that's about to
walk out that door is cold, selfish
and hard. You're dangerously close
to losing who you really are
altogether, Anna. Once you become
just as ruthless as Owl, which is
what I see happening, you're gonna
lose me too. Think about it. Better
yet, why don't you pray about it?
