D. Proper Discussion

Multiplication of 2-or more digits by 2 factors

28----------- Multiplicand
x 13-----------Multiplier
364-----------Product

Step 1: Multiply the ones place of the multiplicand by the ones place of the multiplier.
(The second digit above will carry the second number if the product has two digits.)

x 12
8
Step 2: Multiply the tens place of the multiplicand by the ones place of the multiplier, then add
the number being carried.

 Brad earned 90 pesos per hour by selling ice candy at his school. He sells them for 10
hours a day. How much does he earn each day?

Analyze the problem:

Amount of money Brad earns per hour = 90

Number of hours he works a day = 10

Total amount of money he earns each day = 90 × 10

= 720

Solution:

90 90 90

×10 ×10 ×10

00 0 0 00
+9 0 + 90

900

Step1

Multiply 90 by 0

Step2

Multiply 90 by 1

Step3

Add the partial products

Therefore, he earns 900 pesos each day.
 Max bought 40 books at the rate of 230 per book. How much did he spend in all?

Analyze the problem:

Cost of one book = 230

Number of books Max bought = 40

Total amount of money he spent = 230 × 40

= 9,200

Solution:

230 230 230

x40 x40 x40
000 000 000
920 ➕920
9200

Step 1

Multiply 230 by 0

Step 2

Multiply 230 by 4

Step 3

Add the partial products

Therefore, the total amount of money he spent is 9,200 in all.

 1500 folders each has 60 sheets of paper inside them. How many sheets of paper are there
altogether?

Analyze the problem.

A. How many sheets of paper are there in 1 folder?

B. What is asked in the problem?

C. How can we solve the problem?

D. Show the solution using the sum of partial products.

Solution:

1500 1500 1500

x 60 x 60 x 60

0000 0000 0000

+9 0 0 0 +9 0 0 0

9 0, 0 0 0

Step1

Multiply 1500 by 0

Step2

Multiply 1500 by 6

Step3

Add the partial products

Therefore, altogether there are 90000 sheets.

 There are 25,000 chickens on Ms. Hannah’s chicken farm, each lay 30 eggs per week.
How many eggs does Mrs. North get each week?

Solution:

Number of chickens in Ms. Hannah’s chicken farm = 25,000

Number of eggs laid by each chicken per week = 30

Total number of eggs = 25,000 x 30

= 750,000

2 5, 0 0 0 2 5, 0 0 0 2 5, 0 0 0

x3 0 x3 0 x3 0
00000 00000 00000

+7 5 0 0 0 +7 5 0 0 0

7 5 0, 0 0 0

Step1

Multiply 25,000 by 0

Step2

Multiply 25,000 by 3

Step3

Add the partial products

Therefore, there are 750, 000 eggs altogether in just one week.
E. Application

Form Three groups and each group will be given an activity sheets/cards containing 3 items.
Each Group that finishes the work will display them on the board. The group with the most
correct answers will be given a prize.

This is for the Group One

65,218 24,693 70,000

X 23 x 42 x 50

1,500,014 1,037,106 3,500,000

This is for the Group Two

39,214 21,246 50,000

X 81 x 25 x 80

3,176,334 531,150 4,000,000

This is for the Group Three

18,914 56,428 90,000

X 65 x 22 x 30

1,229,410 1,241,416 2,700,000

F. Generalization
We multiply 2-or more digit factors by 2-digit factors by multiplying all the digits in the
multiplier by the ones digit of the multiplicand to get the first partial product, then by the tens
digit to get the second partial product, then by hundreds digit to get the third partial product, then
by thousands digit to get the fourth partial product, then by ten thousand digit to get the fifth
partial product and so on. Then add the partial products to get the final product.

IV. Evaluation

Solve for the products

V. Assignment

Give the products of the word problems. (Show your solution)

1.) Jane has 55 students in her advisory class and she gave 10 candies each. How
much cadies does she gave to her advisory class?

2.) Jayson bought 300 barbeques for his visitors. Each barbecue is 15 pesos. How
much does he spend?
