PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
"Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but rather we have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit."- Aristotle True to our one time slogan and all-time mantra, "In Search of Excellence While Growing", we have always been obsessed with excellence, sprouted from the conviction to bring world-class products and services into the Nepali society. One of the prime objectives behind the Group's recent foray into the tobacco business is nothing, but to bring the world-class cigarettes to the people. Followed by the launch of Pine Lights, we have introduced Pine Gold into the Kathmandu market during November 2003 and was accepted for its superior quality and flavour. The New Year is going to be more promising as we launched the potato chips into the domestic market with plans for exports, again first of its kind. The Group's foray into the industry marks the entry of the first domestic player to enter the market occupied by both imported products as well as from the unorganized sectors, promising the quality, which will be next to none. Another landmark of the period is the Group's entry into $5 million bio-products markets in association with the UK based Biosys Ltd. The issue also carries a few highlights on our social commitment as well. As a responsible corporate citizen we have always been extending our humble supports from education to healthcare and from art to literature. The agreement with the Kathmandu University instituting scholarships for the engineering graduates and the annual award ceremony by Sri Lunkaran Das - Ganga Devi Chaudhary Academy for Art and Culture have all been accepted as nothing less than responsibilities.

Keeping The Country on Move and in Top Gear
In an era when the voice of the customer is tapped and converted into a deliverable product or service, the region's automobile industry has arrived in the truest sense. With the strong customer base in Nepal and the emergence of several global players in the market, the competition is just about price and the best of service.
Providing technologically vibrant, terrain-friendly, cost-effective, high quality vehicles, the Chaudhary Group scores above others by assuring easily accessible spares and good servicing facilities.

If the very entry of Suzuki Motors, Japan to India (Maruti Udyog Ltd in collaboration with the Government of India) has revolutionized the whole industry in the country, it is the sole dealership of the same brand, which has done the job for the Himalayan Kingdom. Arun Intercontinental Traders (AIT), the holding company of the Group's automobile division was established way back in April 1980 with the exclusive dealership of Suzuki Motors, Japan. Ranging from the sole distribution of power-packed, new generation of cars and pick-up vehicles from Maruti, India and Suzuki, Japan, slim line two-wheelers from TVS Motors, India (formerly TVS Suzuki Motors) trucks, buses, tankers, tippers and troop carriers from Ashok Leyland to Gulf brand of lubricants and Mico Bosch sparkplugs, the Group's automobile division has been actively serving Nepal's growing transportation needs. Providing technologically vibrant, terrain-friendly, costeffective, high quality vehicles, the Chaudhary Group scores above others by assuring easily accessible spares and good servicing facilities. With fully equipped workshops and the assurance of the after sales service facilities, the automobile division has made a mark for itself on the nation's corporate roadmap. With the authorized service centers for both Maruti and Suzuki vehicles, the division also caters to the requirement of genuine spare parts from their parent companies with mobile service facility. As the focus of the new-age customer steadily shifts to the green mode, the Group is continually geared with a host of the latest ecofriendly vehicles released by its partner organizations abroad. Keeping the country on move and in top gear, this division constantly seeks newer avenues for growth in the quest to address the needs of the nation, better. The group intends to enhance its presence in the field of petroleum downstream marketing. Right now Nepal's energy consumption is meager in comparison to its neighbours. But as projected by the analysts, the demand for commercial energy will increase at a rapid rate in the future. Chaudhary Group is also the foremost business and industrial house with expertise in petroleum and allied produsts with adequate infrastructure. ABB Investments Pvt. Ltd., established by Chaudhary Group and its associate has acquired the management share of the Nepal Lube Oil Ltd (promoted by Nepal Oil Corporation - and HMG/Nepal enterprise), under the liberalization policy of HMG/Nepal effective 1991, culminating the privatization of the Nepal Lube Oil Ltd. in 1994.

Another salient feature and innovative step of the whole set up is taking the business to the nook and corners of the country, which has been earlier restricted within the Valley. To effectively execute the same, the Group has entered into an agreement with Rashtriya Banijya Bank, one of the oldest banks in the country with the maximum number of branches, Kumari Bank Limited and Standard Chartered Bank and bagged them as the sub agents for CG Finco. The visualization of Chaudhary Group to bring in quality and reliable services in the financial sector has led to its banking, foray into commercial banking, insurance, merchant banking and money transfer under its holding company CG Finco. With substantial share in Nabil Bank Ltd., United Finance Ltd., and United Insurance Company (Nepal) Ltd, the Group recently made a quantum leap in the money remittance business with its agreement with Western Union Money Transfer Inc., the world's largest money remittance company and a subsidiary of fortune 500 US based First Data Corporation as its principal agent for the whole of Nepal. Within a short span of five months, CG Finco could take the total number of outlets into 150 with the 24-hour customer service center right at the heart of the Capital for the whole of Nepal. CHAUDHARY EDUCATION FOUNDATION

Commitment to the Society Continues

When one does an act of goodness for others with the purest of intentions, one lets its essence trickle out of oneself creating a stream with an endless source. But as a corporate house, more than once we have been compelled to experience that whatever we give back to the society is not out of generosity, but out of true obligation and the seed of the same is as both old and new as the beanstalk itself. Our recent understanding with the Kathmandu University has given us one more opportunity to enrich our social commitment by which the Chaudhary Group has agreed to pay full scholarship "It is our special duty, that if anyone needs our help, we should give him such help to the utmost of our power."- Cicero for one student for the whole four years B Tech Program. Every alternative Year, one more eligible candidate will be selected for the scholarship for the full term of four years as well. The scholarship will be directly administered by the Chaudhary Education Foundation, which monitors the Group's initiatives in the development of higher education in the country. A selection committee was constituted consisting of Prof. Dinesh P. Chapagain, Dean, School of Engineering, Prof. Pushpa Raj Adhikari, Dean, School of Science, Mr. Mukunda Prasad Upadhyay, Chief, Management Services Division, (all Kathmandu University) and Mr. Elvin Gloriappan, Asst. Manager - HRD, Chaudhary Group who selected Mr. Bishal Pandey S/o Mr. Bhishma Pandey, of Jhapa District as the CEF Scholar and will receive the scholarship for his entire education. Mr. Bishal Pandey is first year B Tech student specializing in Computer Engineering. The selection was a dispassionate one with due consideration of both educational and economical backgrounds. The Chaudhary Education Foundation will also ensure that the CEF scholar finds a job in one of the concerns of the Chaudhary Group, provided the candidate successfully completes the course and ready to work. And we only repeat to our scholar what Herbert Spencer said long back, "A great aim of education is not knowledge but action". 6

The experience and benefits were unique and to put it in the words of the participants themselves "it is an adventure, an exploration into the human mind". As a second step the training was held at the CGLC at Chaudhary Udyog Gram and a total of 20 executives from the various regional offices and from the industrial village participated from the workshop, which was held from 18th December to 19th December.
