BRIEFING NOTES:
TO: ANDREW JARVIS

FROM: SENIRO MANAGER

SUBJECT:

DATE : 6 DEC 22

INTRODUCTION:

This briefing notes briefly evaluate the two alternative reward approaches, actions required to
introduce a new reward system for our research and development, how we could recruit good
research and development staff, how we can help ensure that existing research and development
staff are motivated, advantages and disadvantages of retaining Bobby Smith, as well as any other
advice on how the relationship should handle

TASK 2A:

-the two alternative reward approaches as given in the attached e-mail from Abdullah AND
recommend what actions could be required if we were to introduce a new reward system for our
research and development staff

EVLUTION OF 2 OPTIONS

-option 1-PERFORMNCE RELATED BONUS

-option 2 - ESOP

-NEW REWARD SYSTEM FOR R&D STAFF:

Task 2b

- Recruit good research and development staff

there is a constant threat of competitors offering their own innovations and so it is necessary to
spend heavily on research and development.

- Research and development staff are motivated and inspired to stay with us and perform better
other than by a new reward system

the recruitment of adequate numbers of staff has not been a limiting factor. However, as our
company plans to grow, its future could be adversely affected by the lack of good staff with the
essential skills and talent to be willing to join this company given all it does is ‘pay a competitive
salary’.

Task 2C

advantages and disadvantages of retaining Bobby Smith, as well as any other advice on how the
relationship should handled and any recommendations you consider appropriate

Bobby Smith, is our recently appointed Head of Retail International Sales and is responsible for
selling our new SmartNav systems around the world. Within the past few months he is responsible,
together with a small team for generating export sales of U$ 15 million. Bobby, has always been a
very independent person since joining us and does not communicate well with his colleagues or the
Board. In the course of his work he travels extensively to visit retailers around the world. However,
instead of using our usual outsourced travel company to book his flights and hotels, he does
everything himself and often disappears on a trip without telling colleagues. He is poor at staying in
contact with colleagues whilst away. When he returns, he usually justifies his absence by announcing
‘a sale’. When a finance clerk was processing his expense claim from a recent 2 week trip to
Australia, he queried with Bobby some cost items being claimed. Bobby was rude to the finance
clerk and shouted at him for even questioning what he was claiming for. He then threatened to get
the finance clerk sacked if his expenses were not processed and paid quickly. Bobby has now
requested an increase in his bonus, which is currently 5% of the revenue generated from
international sales. Bobby has indicated that unless his bonus is raised to 10% he will move to
another rival company which has approached him with a more attractive package.

SINCERELY,

SENIOR MANAGER

INTRODUCTION:

This briefing note aesses the reasons for and impact of the incident and discusses the options the
board have for handling this incident and recommend what action would be best
A car manufacturer has released a media statement stating that AutoAuto was entirely responsible
for these accidents and that they have a limited role in the installation of devices supplied by us. The
manufacturer believes that we must be made party to the litigation though we do not have any
direct contractual relationship with the end users. The car manufacturer has also communicated to
us that about 100,000 vehicles will be recalled due to the faulty equipment. The devices installed in
these vehicles must be replaced and the entire cost of replacement and recall must be borne by us.
The cost of the recall per vehicle is estimated to be U$100 in addition to the cost of the device being
replaced.

SINCERELY,

SENIOR MNAER
