Domain 1: Data Analytics and Assessment Skills

Artifact 1:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4097345/
I chose this article because at first glance, it seemed to be very detailed, which is what I
need in order to learn and practice data analytics and assessment skills thoroughly and
efficiently. I am not great at analyzing information or drawing conclusions from data, it
takes me a lot of time to do so. With this, I figured I should practice this throughout the
semester. This article explains in detail what data collection and publication is, and the
importance of data collection. I also learned about the methods used to collect data.
Knowing more about these methods helped me figure out how to better draw
conclusions from data by learning the reason behind it. The article also explains the
controversies involved in the collection of data, as well as coming to a consensus using
the said data. It is sometimes difficult coming to a consensus after collecting data
because it could not be consistent throughout the certain study, or it could not be
consistent with findings from other studies that have been done. For example, if I
collected data about exercise habits in college, and I only go to a few colleges to collect
my data, I most likely will not get the same results as I would if I visited a different group
of colleges.

room/
The article above discusses three ways data assessment is used in the classroom. This
caught my eye because it resonated with me as I am currently a student. One thing I
learned from this article is that the Zone of Proximal Development is: “the optimal spot
where instruction is most beneficial for each student and just beyond their current level
of independent capability” (Nordengren, 2022). This article brought up some interesting
questions. One being “why are you assessing?” (Nordengren, 2022). This question is
important to note when practicing data analysis and assessment skills because it brings
forth the reason for your studies or data collection/analysis. In order to efficiently collect
data, analyze and assess it, you must not forget why you are doing it or else you might
fall off track or lose motivation. From this article, I also learned of the methods for
improvement that may be used after poor performance in data analysis. One method I
learned is goal setting and pinpointing areas of weakness. This allows you to focus on
the exact area(s) you need to improve in.
