A RESOLUTION CALLING THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES TO PASS THE HOUSE BILL 2190 OR THE ACT OF PROVIDING A NATIONAL POLICY

ON STUDENTS RIGHTS AND WELFARE (STRAW BILL)

Movement of Students for Progressive Leadership in UP Proponent WHEREAS, Movement of Students for Progressive Leadership stands for a greater student empowerment and further encourage individuals to fulfil their role in attaining social change; WHEREAS, MOVE UP, as a political group composed of students of the University of the Philippines Los Banos, aims to protect students rights and forward student interests at all times; WHEREAS, MOVE UP believes that students have the right to organize activities and organizations to achieve goals that are vital to their interests, holistic development and well-being; WHEREAS, MOVE UP identifies the reality that despite constitutional rights, students are still oppressed and deprived of democratic rights; WHEREAS, MOVE UP condemns the fact that students are still subjected to forms of alienation and discrimination in and out of the academe; WHEREAS, MOVE UP recognizes the need for a legislation that protects and caters to the interest of the students not only in the university but in the entire nation; WHEREAS, House Bill 2190 or STRAW Bill asserts the fundamental and democratic rights of the Filipino students; WHEREAS, House Bill 2190 or STRAW Bill protects the students from discrimination and unjust treatments that may be imposed by institutions and/or individuals; WHEREAS, MOVE UP perceives the STRAW Bill as an effective tool for ward students interests and ensure an environment that will beneficial to the students well-being; WHEREAS, MOVE UP is willing to take part in the activities that will ensure the passing of the STRAW Bill and implementation if ever passed into a law THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that MOVE UP affirms its support for the STRAW Bill;

RESOLVED FURTHER, that such endorsement also confirms its commitment to partake to the activities and conduct projects in line with the aim of passing and implementing the STRAW Bill; RESOLVED FINALLY that MOVE UP will actively participate in the activities related to the forwarding of the bill and that MOVE UP will continue encouraging students and people to support projects and advocacies in line with attaining social change.
