1. Food – countable and uncountable nouns

COUNTABLE: WE CAN COUNT


e.g.: fruits (Orange, apple, banana), vegetables (carrot, potato,
tomato)
Potatoes

An apple = AN – Apple (a – vowel sound)

Remember!
Singular: a / an (um/uma) – an apple, an orange, a banana
Plural: apples, bananas, oranges, tomatoes, potatoes

*com plural nouns não usar o artigo

UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS = WE CANNOT COUNT


1. Grãos (kg) – rice, beans, flour, cereal, pasta
2. Líquidos – water, tea, coffee, juice, soda
3. Fatiar, pedaços – cheese, chocolate, meat
DO NOT USE PLURAL!!!!

2. PRESENT CONTINUOUS
Gerúndio – to describe what is happening now

Ela está estudando. – She is studying.
Affirmative – sujeito + to be (am, is, are) + verb(ing)
We are studying. They are playing soccer. I am speaking.

Negative – sujeito + to be + not + verbing


I am not dancing. We are not learning Spanish.

Questions – to be – sujeito – verbing?


Are we watching tv? Is she running? Are you studying?

3. PRESENT SIMPLE OR PRESENT CONTINUOUS?

Present simple – routine, habits, every day.


I study English. (eu estudo inglês)
Always, never, sometimes, usually, every day, often, rarely, on
Tuesday … - elas indicam present simple
I always watch tv at night. I sometimes drink coffee. I go to school
every day.
I, you, we, they – I work.
She, he, it – He works.

Negative
I, we, you, they – don’t – we don’t go to school on Sundays
He, she, it – doesn’t – she doesn’t go to school on Sundays

Questions
I, we, you, they – do: do you go to school on Sundays?
He, she, it – does: does she go to school on Sundays?

Present continuous – is happening now


I am studying English. (eu estou estudando ingles)
Now, at the moment, this week – indicam present continuous
