MSc Aerospace Engineering

“The scientist discovers a new type of material or energy and the engineer discovers a new

use for it.”- Gordon Lindsay Glegg.

From the improbability to conceiving the thought of flying, aviation engineers have come a long

way. Ever since I can remember, whenever I looked up at the sky and saw an aircraft, I

wondered how these machines flew. As a young boy, when I read about the Boeing 747-400 I

was in awe of what we humans could achieve if we put efforts into actualising our imagination

and collectively working towards a goal.

The procedure, technicalities, extraordinary engineering and efforts sparked a passion within me,

giving me purpose. I hope to be able to work in the area of Aerodynamics, Energetics and

Propulsion in the future. With the same motivation and intent, I am keen on expanding my

knowledge and contributing to the world of engineering by pursuing a Master's in Aerospace

Engineering.

I received my degree from “HAL Pravara Aviation Institute” in which I pursued a Bachelor

of Science in Aeronautics offered by the University of Mumbai and an Aircraft Maintenance

Engineering Course offered by DGCA. During the duration of my undergraduate studies, I had

the honour to complete my practical training in “HAL” and “Air India Services Limited”

(AIESL). In the course of my training with ‘HAL’, I was able to acquire an immense amount

of knowledge about the manufacturing of fighter jets. I also had the privilege to learn, study and

help build the “Sukhoi Su-30 MKI” and witness the overhauling and upgradation of the “Mig-

21 Bison”.In Air India Services Limited (AIESL) we studied and performed tasks on the Boeing

777-300. In my final semester, I was appointed as the project leader for “controllability

manoeuvrability and performing basic aerodynamic movements such as pitching, rolling and
yawing”. My team and I successfully built a fully functional Quadcopter with a 500mm

wheelbase, 930Kv motors, a KK 2.1.5 Flight controller, a FlySky ia6 Transceiver and an SJ

4000 Camera for a real-time view of the flight. This project was a great learning experience, as I

learned how to communicate with others in a professional capacity, perform team-building

exercises, solve problems together by listening to one another and most importantly exercising

time management. During my time here I have not only developed as a student but also as a

professional who, in the future strives to be a part of the Aerospace community.

I would like to be provided with the opportunity to study at ISAE Supaero as it is the oldest

aeronautical university in the world and has nearly 110 years of experience. It continues to

produce several scholars which drives me to be part of this prestigious university. The

Department of Aerodynamics, Energetics and Propulsion (DAEP), is of great interest to me. I

look forward to working on topics of Turbomachines and Propulsion. I have been following the

work of Mr Xavier Carbonneau (Head of the DAEP), the research paper that I resonate with was

'An Evaluation of the Potential of Local Electric Power Packages on Aircraft Fleet Level'. The

paper stated the ' optimization of aircraft's electrical system and by applying a concept of

segmentation and decoupling' in which there was an idea of decoupling individual consumers

from the main electrical system and supplying them with Local Electrical Power Packages by

which aircraft's wing Mass can be reduced. I was extremely inspired by reading this paper, I too

want to further research on research on ‘Propulsion Electrification’ to build a “green future “ for

the aerospace industry. Mr Xavier Carbonneau is an inspiration, whom I wish to work alongside

with in the future.

In addition, the university has some of the superpowers of the aerospace industry like Airbus and

Dassault as your partner companies making it even more exciting to be part of. As a concluding
comment, I would like to say that there is no end to learning and there is no one method of

learning, as society is not static and neither are we, our minds should not be subjected to it either.

I look forward to keep striving to push boundaries and to keep learning. As put forth by

Mahatma Gandhi “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”
