No-Amon (Thebes)

NO-AMON, AMON, THEBES: This prominent city in Egypt was at onetime the capital of Egypt. It is located on both banks of the Nile River about 330 miles south of Cairo. The Greeks called it Thebes and that is the name used today. Old Egyptian textbooks called it the City of Amon. It was the principle center of worship of the god Amon. At one time the god Amon was the most important god of the nation of Egypt. The temple of Amon at Karnak is considered to be the largest columnar structure ever built. Its massive columns measure twelve feet in diameter. (Nahum 3:7-10) (Jeremiah 46:25, 26) (Ezekiel 30:10, 14, 15) (Nahum 3:8 NSB) Are you better than Noamon, which sits by the streams of the Nile with water surrounding her? The sea was her defense. The water was her wall.

(1 Kings 22:26 NSB) The king of Israel said: Take Micaiah and send him back to Amon, the ruler of the town, and to Joash, the king's son. (2 Kings 21:18 NSB) So Manasseh went to rest with his fathers. He was buried in the garden of his house, in the garden of Uzza. Amon his son became king in his place. (2 Kings 21:19 NSB) Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king. He ruled in Jerusalem for two years. His mother's name was Meshullemeth, the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah.

(2 Kings 21:22 NSB) Amon turned away from Jehovah the God of his fathers. He did not walk in his ways. (2 Kings 21:23 NSB) The servants of Amon conspired against him. They killed the king in his house. (2 Kings 21:25 NSB) Now the rest of the acts which Amon did, are recorded in the Book of the History of the Kings of Judah. (1 Chronicles 3:14 NSB) Amon his son, Josiah his son. (2 Chronicles 18:25 NSB) Then King Ahab ordered one of his officers: Arrest Micaiah and take him to Amon, the governor of the city, and to Prince Joash. (2 Chronicles 33:20 NSB) Manasseh lay down in death with his ancestors. They buried him in his own palace. His son Amon succeeded him as king. (2 Chronicles 33:21 NSB) Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king. He ruled for two years in Jerusalem. (2 Chronicles 33:22 NSB) He did what Jehovah considered evil, as his father Manasseh had done. Amon sacrificed to all the idols his father Manasseh had made, and he worshiped them. (2 Chronicles 33:23 NSB) He did not humble himself in front of Jehovah as his father Manasseh had humbled himself. Instead, Amon continued to sin.

(2 Chronicles 33:25 NSB) The people of the land killed everyone who conspired against King Amon. They made his son Josiah king in his place. (Nehemiah 7:59 NSB) The children of Shephatiah, the children of Hattil, the children of Pochereth-hazzebaim, the children of Amon. (Jeremiah 1:2 NSB) Jehovah (YHWH) spoke his word to Jeremiah. This happened when King Josiah, son of Amon, was in his thirteenth year as king of Judah. (Jeremiah 25:3 NSB) Jehovah continued to speak his word to me for twenty-three years. This covered the time from when Josiah, son of Amon, was in his thirteenth year as king of Judah until today. I have spoken to you again and again, but you have not listened. (Jeremiah 46:25 NSB) Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: I am going to punish Amon, who is the god of Thebes. I will also punish Pharaoh, Egypt, its gods, its kings, and whoever trusts Pharaoh. (Zephaniah 1:1 NSB) This is the word Jehovah (YHWH) spoke to Zephaniah. Zephaniah was the son of Cushi, the grandson of Gedaliah, and the great-grandson of Amariah, son of Hezekiah. Jehovah spoke his word in the days of Judah's King Josiah, son of Amon. (Matthew 1:10 NSB) Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah.

Thebes 4
(Jeremiah 46:25 NSB) Jehovah of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: I am going to punish Amon, who is the god of Thebes. I will also punish Pharaoh, Egypt, its gods, its kings, and whoever trusts Pharaoh. (Ezekiel 30:14 NSB) I will destroy Pathros, set fire to Zoan and bring punishment on Thebes. (Ezekiel 30:15 NSB) I will pour out my fury on Sin, Egypt's fortress, and I will kill many people in Thebes. (Ezekiel 30:16 NSB) I will set fire to Egypt. Sin will be in much pain. Thebes will be broken into pieces, and Memphis will be in trouble every day.
