LAB # 12

INSTRUCTOR: Engr. Zunaira Shah

DEPARTMENT:
TELECOMMUNICATION ENGINEERING
TITLE:
BUILDING A LAN NETWORK USING A DYNAMIC ROUTING, SIMULATION OF
ROUTING INFORMATION PROTOCOL (RIP)

OBJECTIVE:
Following are the objectives for this lab:
 To build a LAN network using a dynamic routing.
 To simulate routing information protocol

EQUIPMENT:
 Two computers having Windows XP/2000 and LAN Cards installed one Cross-Over
cable with appropriate length.
 Cisco packet tracer

INTRODUCTION:
Routing Information Protocol (RIP) is a dynamic routing protocol that uses hop count as a routing
metric to find the best path between the source and the destination network. It is a distance-vector
routing protocol that has an AD value of 120 and works on the Network layer of the OSI model. RIP
uses port number 520.In the Inter Domain Category of Dynamic Routing we have the distant vector
in which we have RIP (Routing Information Protocol).R.I.P sends the data after every 30 seconds to
all active interfaces and routers from the router on which RIP is enabled. The RIP works up to 15
hope count.

Procedure:
 Connect two routers and switch to each other.
 Connect the PCs to the switches.
 Do same procedure as we do for static.
 Now go to Router0, click on config, and go to RIP.
 Give network address of each 192.168.1.0 , 192.168.2.0 , 192.168.3.0 as we have three
networks.

 Now go to Router1, click on config, and go to RIP.

 Give network address of each 192.168.1.0 , 192.168.2.0 , 192.168.3.0
