Remaining in Euratom Submission
Remaining in Euratom Submission
Policy Forum
The UK remaining in the European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom) would answer in part the
question “What should be Labour’s priorities for Brexit, and how can we most effectively shape the
outcome and hold the Government to account?” asked in the International Commission’s discussion
paper. It would allow the UK to continue to participate in Euratom’s research programmes, which
offer significant economic benefit to the UK.
Euratom is a separate legal entity from the European Union, although it is governed by the
institutions of the EU. The UK leaving the EU does not require it to leave Euratom. The UK
remaining in Euratom does not mean that it remains in part in the EU.
I would like to submit a proposal for the UK to remain in the European Atomic Energy Community.
