Removal

1. Raise and support front of vehicle.


2. Remove:
Engine undershield.
Engine top cover.
Air filter housing.
Air intake hoses.
Auxiliary drive belt. Use tool Nos.EN-48253/EN-48952.
Cruze: PAS pump. DO NOT disconnect hoses.
Cruze: Intercooler to turbocharger lower hose.
3. Support engine.
4. Remove:
RH engine mounting and bracket.
Timing belt upper cover [1].
Auxiliary drive belt guide pulley.
Auxiliary drive belt tensioner. Use tool No.EN-48300.
Crankshaft pulley bolts [2].
Crankshaft pulley [3].
Timing belt lower cover [4].
5. Remove vacuum pump from rear of cylinder head.
6. Remove blanking plug from cylinder block [5].
7. Turn crankshaft clockwise until just before TDC on No.1 cylinder.
8. Insert crankshaft locking pin [6]. Tool No.EN-48246.
9. Turn crankshaft slowly clockwise until locking pin engages.
10. Ensure crankshaft sprocket timing marks aligned [7].
11. Ensure hole in rear of camshaft at 12 o'clock position [8].
12. Fit camshaft locking tool [9]. Tool No.EN-48245.
13. Slacken tensioner pulley bolt [10].
14. Turn tensioner pulley clockwise away from belt. Use Allen key [11].
15. Remove:
Tensioner pulley bolt [10].
Tensioner pulley [12].
Timing belt.

Installation

1. Check tensioner pulley, water pump pulley and guide pulley for smooth operation. Replace if necessary.
2. Fit tensioner pulley [12] . Finger tighten bolt [10] .
3. Ensure tensioner pulley retaining lug is properly engaged.
4. Turn tensioner pulley clockwise. Use Allen key [11] .
5. Tighten tensioner pulley bolt [10] .
6. Ensure crankshaft locking pin located correctly [6] .
7. Ensure crankshaft sprocket timing marks aligned [7] .
8. Ensure hole in rear of camshaft at 12 o'clock position [8] .
9. Ensure camshaft locking tool correctly located [9] .
10. Lacetti/Nubira/Captiva: Slacken camshaft sprocket bolt [13] .
11. Lacetti/Nubira/Captiva: Lightly tighten camshaft sprocket bolt [13] .
NOTE: Lacetti/Nubira/Captiva: Ensure camshaft sprocket can turn freely without tilting.
12. Align high-pressure fuel pump sprocket marks [14] .
13. Fit timing belt.
14. Slacken tensioner pulley bolt [10] .
15. Turn tensioner pulley anti-clockwise until pointer aligned with hole [15] & [16] .

Tuned for: Year: 2007-11 V9.200-
16. Tighten tensioner pulley bolt [10] . Tightening torque: 25 Nm.
17. Lacetti/Nubira/Captiva: Tighten camshaft sprocket bolt [13] . Tightening torque: 133 Nm.
18. Remove:
Camshaft locking tool [9] .
Crankshaft locking pin [6] .
19. Turn crankshaft slowly two turns clockwise until just before TDC on No.1 cylinder.
20. Insert crankshaft locking pin [6] .
21. Turn crankshaft slowly clockwise until crankshaft locking pin engages.
22. Ensure crankshaft sprocket timing marks aligned [7] .
23. Ensure hole in rear of camshaft at 12 o'clock position [8] .
24. Ensure camshaft locking tool can be inserted easily [9] .
25. If not: Repeat tensioning procedure.
26. Remove:
Camshaft locking tool [9] .
Crankshaft locking pin [6] .
27. Fit blanking plug to cylinder block [5] . Tightening torque: 30 Nm.
28. Install components in reverse order of removal.
29. Tighten crankshaft pulley bolts [2] . Tightening torque: 34 Nm.
