PROCEDURE FOR HANDLING SPILLS- Acid Spills

If the Spill observed in Chemical Storage area, add neutralising agent on the
chemical Spill ( For Acid Spill Used Lime as a neutralising agent)
Allow several minutes for acid to mix with neutralizer, then test a
representative area with pH paper.
When the spill has been neutralized, clean the area by using proper PPEs
Place all the spilled material in bags & labelled as Hazardous Waste & Kept the
bags in Hazardous Waste area
Remove PPE and thoroughly wash hands.
Use soap and water to wash the affected area and remove any
minor residues that may be left.

PROCEDURE FOR HANDLING SPILLS- Alkali Spills

If the Spill observed in Chemical Storage area, add neutralising agent on the
chemical Spill ( For Acid Spill Used citric acid as a neutralising agent)
Allow several minutes for acid to mix with neutralizer, then test a
representative area with pH paper.
When the spill has been neutralized, clean the area by using proper PPEs
Place all the spilled material in bags & labelled as Hazardous Waste & Kept the
bags in Hazardous Waste area
Remove PPE and thoroughly wash hands.
Use soap and water to wash the affected area and remove any
minor residues that may be left.

PROCEDURE FOR HANDLING SPILLS- Oil Spills

If the Spill observed in Oil Storage area, add neutralising agent on the chemical
Spill ( For Oil Spill Used saw dust as a neutralising agent)
Allow several minutes to absorb the oil with saw dust
When the oil has been absorbed , clean the area by using proper PPEs
Place all the spilled material in bags & labelled as Hazardous Waste & Kept the
bags in Hazardous Waste area
Remove PPE and thoroughly wash hands.
Use soap and water to wash the affected area and remove any
minor residues that may be left.
