Chinni – A hard hitting revenge drama with loads of violence aided by

performances

Chinni, the Telugu version of the Tamil movie Saani Kaayidham starring Keerthi Suresh and
the director turned actor Selva Raghavan has hit the OTT screens on Prime Video. A period
revenge set in the 80’s, Chinni impresses most of the times through out the movie.

Synopsis : Chinni (Keerthi Suresh) a police constable of the 80’s lives a normal life with her
husband and daughter. She dreams of making her life a better one but her husband with a temper
enrages the upper class men of the village. This leads to the upper class men to attack Chinni and
eventually destroying everything she holds dear. The rest of the story ensues a violent bloody
revenge Sega of Chinni along with her estranged Step-brother Rangayya (Selva Raghavan).

My View : The story is told in different segments, Khandams as said in the movie. Although the
story is mostly said in linear way there are some flashbacks spread throughout the movie
depicting the relation between the two lead characters Chinni and Khandams. The movie mainly
depends on the performances of its two lead characters and hell they did an exceptional job
through out. Keerthi Suresh’s menacing and emotional act might be her best performance after
Mahanati. Selva Raghavan the ace director who turned an actor in Beast has delivered an ace
performance. Even though it is very rare to find women in Cinematography department, the lady
behind this camera Yamini Yagnamurthy has done an exceptional job in capturing the rawness of
the movie. The bgm by Sam is okay and suits the tone of the movie. The editing by Nagooran
can be a bit better some scenes feeling to be a bit lengthy. All the remaining departments have
done adequate jobs. Coming to director Arun Matheswaran, he have done a good job on getting
it all from the cast and crew to ensure his not so niche story to be told in a better way. But he
could have worked better in writing the tow end of the story better as it becomes too predictable.
But considering it is still his second film after Rocky he makes sure that he is one to look
forward in future with this flick.

Pro’s : Performances of the lead cast, Cinematography, the BGM in some places and the hard
hitting depiction of the reality.

Con’s : Too much of blood, Violence depicted may not be of everyone’s taste and predictability
in the latter half of the story.

My Rating : 7.5/10
