Lesson 2
Lesson 2
After introducing the topic of punctuation using as anchor chart, TSWBAT properly write 10
sentences using the appropriate form of punctuation with at least 80% accuracy.
RATIONALE:
After administering several QRI passages both narrative and expository in nature, I noticed that
struggles to stop at punctuations such as a period and a comma. She also struggles with
prosody when encountering question marks and exclamation points when reading. Most of the
time, she focuses on reading the individual words rather than looking ahead at the ending for the
punctuation. Since noticing that she struggles to change her voice fluctuation and to pause at
breaks, I thought it would be appropriate to teach a lesson on the several types of punctuations
and their functions in writing. I will also incorporate a writing aspect into the lesson to help her
increase her grammar skills as well.
ASSESSMENT:
l will use a writing activity to assess her ability to use punctuation in their proper forms. She will
be required to create IO sentences using different forms of punctuation appropriately. I am
looking for 80% accuracy on this assignment to meet the objective. I will also be working
alongside her during this activity by writing my own sentences to share with her.
REFLECTION:
Overall, I thought that the lesson went very well and was a change of pace. The drawing and
creativity portion of the lesson was engaging for her, and she really enjoyed the dice game. It felt
more like a game rather than an assessment in my opinion. I noticed that she started to reference
the anchor chart several times throughout the activity for help which was one my goals for her
throughout the lesson. She also progressed in her ability to form complete sentences and to use
proper grammar as well. Ifl would teach the lesson again, I would have the student create a
smaller anchor chart to keep at her desk so that she could reuse the chart for future use.
