Teaching is very rewarding.

I got a taste of it when I just got out of

highschool. I got a job at a private school to work with the aftercare program.

Later on I moved up to be a teacher assistant. It was able to give me experience

in the classroom and watch how things are done. I truly enjoy being in the

classroom and helping little ones learn. I was first inspired by my resource

teacher I had throughout all of high school. His name was Mr. Smith and he took

a lot of time to help every single student he had. He got to know everyone and

was able to connect with his students. He also kept students on top of their work

and took extra time after school to help those who needed it. While working in the

classroom environment and doing observations helped me understand how

important structure is aswell.

Today's world is shaped by history. It took a lot to form what today looks

like. I believe all students should be active with their learning. Teachers should be

able to help provide the student with the knowledge on taking notes, study

guides, and how to study, Having activities that have the students wanting to

learn more is important. Encouraging the want to explore and grow is also

important. Creating an exciting learning enviornment helps the student want to be

involved and have fun while doing it. The student should feel safe to answer

questions that the teacher asks or feel comfortable asking questions as well. I
think that given historical events all students should feel safe where they are

learning and feel comfortable communicating with their teacher.

Stratagies I will implement would be for example active learning. Being

able to keep them involved in the lesson and also being able to take time to

pause and go over things that were still unclear to the students. Them coming up

with their own questions to ask either other piers or the teacher is a great way for

them to be actively involved. Them also being able to break out into small groups

and discuss what they just learned has them actively thinking about the lesson as

well.

The qualities I will need to possess to move forward in teaching is strong

communication, patience, listening, and empathy. I personally think these are

very important for this career. It is important to for communication between not

only coworkers but also to the students and families. Patience is important with

students. Also, listening is important to students. Hearing what helps them and

also just to be there for them. The steps I am taking currently are going to CSN

for my associates degree in special education. Then, I want to move on to UNLV

and get my bachelors in special education.
