Living in your dream

By Thu Ha
When I was 10 years old, my parents passed away in a traffic accident.
Since then I have been brought up by my grandmother who was 70 years old and unable to do
hard work. Thus, I had to leave school and earned a living by doing odd jobs, such as selling
lottery tickets, washing dishes and doing babysitting. My grandmother was very worried about
my future, so she encouraged me to attend evening secondary school classes.
With a lot of effort, I completed secondary education and passed a challenging exam to enter
Medical University. However, I couldn't afford enough money to pay tuition fees.
I was very depressed because my dream of studying at that university couldn't come true.
One day, a miracle happened. I was awarded a scholarship from The Thanh Nien for college
students from poor family. This was an important milestone in my life because I could go to
university with a hope for a better life.
After six years of hard work, finally I graduated from university. Now I am a doctor at a
hospital and I never forget people who supported me through difficult days. I am planning to
run a charitable organisation to help poor students. I hope that those students will always get
support from the whole society so that they can turn their life into a new chapter like me.
I shared my story with much hope of encouraging people who have difficulties in life to
overcome hardships.
Poverty is no shame.
Don't let poverty defeat you and destroy your hope for a better life.
This is my motto.
