Why sourcing food products from Egypt?
Exports of the Egyptian food industry increased by 19 percent in 2021, recording $4.1 billion against $3.45 million in the corresponding period in 2020. The Arab coun-
tries topped the list of international groups importing food industry products from Egypt. Exports to the Arab markets amounted to $2.225 million in 2021, repre-
senting 54 percent of the total food exports. The European Union came second in the list with a value of $634 million, with a growth rate of 29 percent and represent-
ing 15 percent of Egypt’s total food exports. It was followed by non-Arab African countries with the value of food imported from Egypt amounting to $404 million,
representing 10 percent of the total. The value of food exports to the US upped by 23 percent to $223 million, representing 5 percent of Egypt’s total food exports.
Narrowing the focus down, Saudi Arabia continued to be at the top of the list of the most important importing countries for Egyptian processed foods during the first eight months
of 2022 with a value of 198 million US dollars, achieving a growth rate of 25% in value compared to the exports of the same period in 2021, which amounted to 159 million dollars.
All Egyptian food products are popular with the Saudi market due to the compatibility of food culture, taste, geographic proximity, ease of transportation and shipping, compatibil-
ity of language and culture, and the customs advantages given to Egyptian products when exporting to Saudi Arabia within the framework of the Greater Arab Trade Agreement.
The number of Egyptian companies exporting processed foods to Saudi Arabia in 2021 was about 342, including 43 companies whose exports exceed one million US dollars.
In practical terms, sourcing food products from Egypt is central to cost structure, profit margins and competitiveness for business of all sizes. Sourcing food products from
Egypt allows your company to establish consistent supply chains and keeps your shelves stocked and customers happy.
