4. ORGANIZATIONAL FEASIBILITY
As popular as solar energy is today, the process for determining whether a
solar project is a sensible investment can be a black box that many facilities’
managers and chief financial officers would prefer to avoid. In this blog post,

11
we will equip you with basic tools to complete your own internal solar
feasibility analysis before contacting a developer or installer.

⮚ Financial Approach:
Once you’ve determined the feasibility of your project location and considered
your current energy usage and cost, it is time to think through financing
options for the solar project.

⮚ Self-Funding Approach:
For some businesses, the most sensible way to approach funding for a solar
project is to self-fund. Consider this approach if:

1. Your firm has the tax appetite to take advantage of the Federal Investment
Tax Credit (FITC) and Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System
(MACRS) depreciation that is available in a solar project.
2. You have access to the capital required to develop a commercial solar
project. Typically, a commercial solar installation can cost 100,000 and up.
Naturally, the larger the installation, the higher the cost. But its small
proects so ,the cost will be low.

Certain solar developers have established relationships with lenders who are
familiar with solar economics. In some cases, these lenders offer better rates
and terms than traditional business debt instruments. It is worth reviewing
funding options with your developer or installer of choice.

⮚ Third-party Financing Approach:

Even for businesses with a strong balance sheet and an abundance of cash,
third-party funding can be an attractive approach to going solar.

There is no denying the environmental and financial benefits of solar energy.

The idea of harnessing the energy of the sun to produce electricity is gathering
steam, and it shows no signs of slowing down. Although most companies are
extremely open to the idea of powering their operations with clean energy
from the sun, they almost always balk at the high upfront costs required to get
started. Yes, there are tax incentives and, in most cases, instant savings on
12
electric bills; but a business still needs to supply the upfront capital to develop
a solar project.

This problem isn’t only relevant to small and medium size businesses. Even
Fortune 100 companies grapple with the same issue. In most cases, large
companies have a public sustainability mission or plan that requires a certain
amount of renewable energy procurement. Some companies resort to
purchasing renewable energy credits, while others don’t want to be denied the
distribution and transmission savings of onsite solar installation – thus opting
for a creative funding option that requires zero capital expenditure. This
option is commonly known as a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) and it is
growing in popularity.

▪ Solar Feasibility Study – We analyze your needs and electric bill data to
make sure that a solar project will benefit your business.
▪ Proposal Development – Once we understand how solar can benefit you,
we develop a comprehensive proposal for you and your leadership to
review. During our study, we’ll idenfity which funding method will save
you the most money. See the Financing Approach section for more
details.
▪ Commissioning and Operation – After installation, the solar panels
undergo comprehensive testing. When all systems perform at or above
expectation, we turn on the solar array.
▪ Letter of Intent – If our proposal addresses all of your needs, we’ll
provide you with a letter of intent that allows us to perform a deeper
due diligence.

5. FINANCIAL FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS

Financial feasibility focuses specifically on the financial aspects of solar

power bank.

⮚ PARTS OF FINANCIAL FEASIBILITY:

1. Total start-up cash needed
2. Financial performance of similar business
3. Overall attractiveness of proposed venture
13
4. Financial management
▪ Objectives
▪ Process
5.Getting financing
▪ Sources
▪ Personal
▪ Debt financing
▪ Equity financing

• In this solar product installation, the start up costs will include product
cost, installation cost the cost of inspection and certification. The
product cast will include all of the various hardware components of a
solar system, including the actual solar products, the frames to mount
them on, the inverter to convert the DC power to AC. And the grid tie
system which will allow it to connect to the power grid. There will also
be the cost of a professional installation, as this is requirement for the
MTC grant. Finally, there is the cost of inspection and certification, which
is also required to receive the aforementioned grant. All of these costs
will be reduced by the grants and incentives outlined in the previous
section to determine the overall start up cost.
• After the solar panel installed and generating electricity, there is an
operational cost that goes along maintaining them. Solar retailers often
give information about maintenance cost of solar panels, which includes
any maintenance or repairs or replacement of damaged panels. Even
smaller costs such as the shovelling the snow off of the solar panels
during the winter would fall in this category.
• The money generated from the solar panel would ideally offset the cost
mentioned above money generated from solar Panels can be broken Into
three categories: energy saved, energy sold back, and renewable
energy credits. The primary category the energy saved will be the
difference in cost between the electric bill with the solar panels installed
and what the electricity bill would have been without them installed in
the simplest scenario this would be the number of kWh generated that
does not exceed the amount used multiplied by the cost per kWh.
• The next category energy sold back to the electric company would be
any amount of electricity generated by solar system that exceeded
energy usage and could be sold back to the electric company. The final
way to profit from the solar panel is through the sale of renewable
14
energy credits to other corporations. Corporations are regulated by the
government to meet a certain quota for the use of renewable energy.
Some generate their own renewable energy; however, others buy credits
in lieu of generating in themselves. These credits have their own market,
and the proceeds from of the sales of credits may be in the addition to
the money received from the previous two categories.
• The final consideration when analyzing the feasibility of such a project is
the available financing . Solar panels system generally require small
capital investment divided into five partners .
Economic feasibility systems , investigated what economic factors and
assumptions should be used in order to create an accurate economic
model of solar product.

⮚ SCOPE:
This programe should allow more people to use renewable energy sources.
Which will help in attaining a free and uninterrupted supply of electricity. The
excess energy which is produced shall be available to other people through
Net metering so it will impact the whole nation.

⮚ ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:
The eligibility criteria to qualify for this program have been kept very easy and
simple to cope this the original objective of the program that is encourage
more people to use renewable energy by making it affordable. The eligibility
criteria certain only these two requirements.

⮚ DISTRIBUTION PROCESS FLOW:

15
▪ STAGE 1: Bare minimum inventory is maintained to fulfill the demand
on time
▪ STAGE 2: demand
from clients
analyzed
▪ STAGE 3: delivery
and installation
at the premises of
clients takes place
▪ STAGE 4: recorder

demand

This project will cost

around 100,000 to
200,000 .[4] As of
2013 there was a controversy surrounding Street Charge appliances in that
there were no plans implemented to protect appliances and users utilizing the
device. The concern was that the wiring might be modified by malicious
users to steal or wipe data from devices plugged into the device

⮚ INSTALLED AND OPERATIONAL CAPACITIES:

The operation capacity of this pre feasibility is 12 kW per month. The assumed
operational capacity during the first years of operations is 90%.

⮚ CRITICAL FACTORS:
The key success factors are as follows:
▪ Quality of components .

16
▪ Effective marketing plan for the business so that the potential customers
could be reached.
▪ After sale services is also crucial in creating Good personal relationship
with customers.
▪ Owner or key employees must have technical experience and expertise.
▪ Selection of a central location based on the target market.
▪ Linkages development with the local market and house holds.

The battery pack power is used to power the induction coil that is mounted on
the top of the power bank. When mobile phone is placed over the top of the
power bank an electromagnetic induction effect induces electric current in the
coil mounted in the phone back. This is used to charge the phone wirelessly.

17
6. Business Model
The Port Solar Charger Turns Any Window into a Power Outlet for Your
Mobile Gadgets. The best aspects of the Port Solar Charger include its
lightweight design and USB compatibility. While some solar phone chargers
we’ve reviewed in the pass are powerful, they’re also quite bulky and require
outdoor placement in direct sunlight. The Port Solar Charger is light (about 3.8
oz) and attaches directly to the window frame to avoid shadows cast by
frames or window
furniture.

Solar cell phone

chargers use solar panels to charge cell phone batteries. They can be used
when no electricity supply is available- either mains are sometimes suggested
as a way to charge phones without consuming mains electricity, unlike
electricity cell phone charges.
We designed our system and internal circuitry so that it could be easily
reproduced given design schematics. The actual building process does not
involve complex machining or electronics. The external design is intuitive and
easy to understand while the internal circuitry is easy to assemble given a
circuit diagram
⮚ Key Takeaways:
• A business model is a company’s core strategy for profitably doing business.
• Models generally include information like products or services the business
plans to sell, target markets, and any anticipated expenses.

18
• The two levers of a business model are pricing and costs.
• When evaluating a business model as an investor, ask whether the idea
makes sense and whether the numbers add up.

⮚ Testing and Results:

Once the solar cell phone charger prototype was completed, it was necessary
to test its real life performance. Our main goal at the beginning of this project
was to have a cell phone charger that could charge a fully discharged cell
phone in less than 6 hours. To test if our model could fulfill this task, we
measured the power coming out of our circuit and into the cell phone and
compared it to the energy capacity of the battery we were charging.
⮚ Charging Time:
The energy capacity of the cell phone batteries is 1000mAh. If we test the
amperage output of our charger, we could figure out around how long it would
take for the cell phone battery to charge completely.
⮚ Conclusions of testing:
The experimental data lead us to conclude that the output Amperage of the
circuit, if used in Nicaraguan sun, could be about 80 to 100 milliamps. From
this data, we estimate that if a cell phone battery were fully discharged, it
would take about 10-12 hours for it to fully charge (the battery has an energy
capacity of 1000mAh). Realistically, most cell phone batteries are charged
from half charge, reducing the time needed to charge.

19
⮚ Components Required:

• Solar panel(6V, 1000mAh)-2

• Micro USB cable-1
• LM317 voltage Regulator-1
• BC547 NPN Transistor-1
• Small Breadboard
• Potentiometer (10K)
• 1N5819 Diodes -2
• Resistors 100 Ohms and 150 Ohms-2
• 5.6V 1N4734A Zener Diode-1

An external adjustable voltage regulator is used to obtain the desired constant

voltage. A zener diode switches on to ensure charging is cut off at the
saturation point.
Two 3.7V lithium ion batteries are used as backup; an operational amplifier
works here as a comparator to signify when backup is fully charged.
Ultimately, 11V and 160mA is supplied by the panel under full sunlight. This
charger has an output voltage of 5V and an average of 1000mAh current to
charge a mobile phone, this system charges a phone fully between 4-5hours
and it has a capacity of 4800mAh.
This device charges all mobile phones by all manufacturers using a universal
serial bus connector. It is the only viable solution to charging mobile phones as
it is portable, lightweight and does not cause pollution.
Solar chargers are simple, portable and ready to use devices which can be
used by any one especially in remote areas. Going solar can solve the problems
of dependence on fuels and the prevalent energy crisis. This project aims to
make a portable solar charger which can be used on the go. A portable solar
mobile phone charger is simply a power electronic device that converts solar
radiation into electrical current for the purpose of charging the batteries of
mobile phone.

20
This charger is made by converting, controlling and conditioning the flow of
electrical energy from source to load according to the requirement’s of the
load; this technology is called power electronics.

Some chargers have an internal rechargeable battery which is charged in

sunlight and then used to charge a phone; others charge the phone
directly. They also come in the form of straps, with solar cells on the outer
surface and a rechargeable battery inside. Solar cell technology limits the
effectiveness and practicality of phone solar chargers for everyday use. Phone
charge times vary depending on the solar panel size and efficiency, or the
battery capacity of models with batteries, further extending the charge times
of solar chargers. The fold-out design provides a larger solar panel, hence
higher charge current, and is compact when not in use.

We highly recommend that another D-lab group take up this project and work
on further optimizing it and reducing costs, possibly developing alternative
ways to step up the voltage without the use of expensive components like the
differential amplifier.

21
7. RISKS AND CONTINGENCY APPROACH

⮚ PROJECT SPECIFICATION AND RISK:

It is very important to understand the need for the development of a solar
charger and the deliverables for producing the equipment. Finest detail about
the project is to be known and properly measurable. The project involves the
manufacturing of a solar charger for facilitating mobile phones for online
classes. The critical success factors involve completing the project within the
deadline (COVID-19 pandemic lockdown) and with employee satisfaction. The
development and implementation of solar-powered mobile chargers require
effective design and functionality. It will be accompanied by fulfilling the
conditions for a sustainable solar program. There should be a Global
e-Tendering Platform that will enable the state government to implement a
competitive process by selecting independent power producers through a
robust mannerfor charging the solar mobile battery . The oriented project
specifications willanalyses the specific questions, like accounting the needs
and accountability requirements to develop a solar, with the evaluation of
oriented methodby favouring technical qualities of the process of the
project. The objectives if a testing program of the designs that will standardize
the project. The projecttesting incorporates assessed performance through
performing a controlled experiment with the contrast of the outcomes
elucidated for the solar project. The fundamental reason for this has to be with
risks associated with the implementation of solar-powered chargers. The
project aims to consider the risks in considering of project of making
sustainable solar-powered mobile chargers.

▪ USB solar chargers are a great option if you’re taking an extended

camping trip or if you’re traveling somewhere with an unreliable power
grid. They’re also good for stashing in an emergency kit. In all those

22
specific situations, a solar charger could charge a phone the size of an
iPhone X using a few hours of midday sun. But in most situations, a USB
solar charger isn’t actually the best portable power source, and you may
be better off starting with a USB power bank designed for phones and
tablets, USB-C laptops, or AC-powered laptops. Our power bank picks
keep a smartphone charged for hours or even days at a time, are the size
of a paperback novel or smaller, and are not dependent on the weather.

The risks affecting solar projects appear throughout the entire project lifetime,
but vary greatly in character. Here are some examples:

● Construction risk: Risk of property damage or liability stemming

from errors during the building of new projects.
● Company risk: Risk affecting the viability of the project developer,
for example, risks related to key personnel, financial solidity and
technical ability to execute on plans.
● Environmental risk: Risk of environmental damage caused by the
solar park including any liability following such damage.
● Financial risk: Risk of insufficient access to investment and
operating capital.
● Market risk: Risk of a cost increases for key input factors such as
labor or modules, or rate decreases for electricity generated.
● Operational risk: Risk of unscheduled plant closure due to the lack
of resources, equipment damages or component failures.
● Technology risk: Risk of components generating less electricity over
time than expected.
● Political and regulatory risk: Risk of a change in policy that may
affect the profitability of the project, for example changes in levels of
tax credit or RPS targets. Also, this includes changes in policy as
related to permitting and interconnection.
● Climate and weather risk: Risk of changes in electricity generation
due to lack of sunshine or snow covering solar panels for long
periods of time.

23
The immediate impact of the presence of any of these risk factors is
uncertainty around the revenue and profitability projections for the
project and thus the financial viability of the project.
⮚ Contingency Approach:
To find a power supply problem, we start at the data logger and test
each part of the system back to the charging source. After you perform
these steps, contact Campbell Scientific if you find any of the conditions
outlined below:

▪ Investment in solar technology can improve energy access, create jobs,
increase income, improve trade balance and contribute to industrial
development. The socio-economic benefits of solar are astounding and
its’ impact can be maximized with sound macro-level policies.

▪ All around the world, people are affected by natural disasters like
hurricanes, floods, fires, earthquakes, and more. Many of these disasters
can lead to power outages. With solar energy, you’ll be able to benefit
your local economy by providing power during these emergencies. The
sun will still produce power when other sources of energy aren’t
available, and your family and community will benefit from this in an
emergency. In addition, solar power can help reduce the effects of global
warming that cause some emergencies.

Conclusion and Future Scoping:

In conclusion, a portable solar mobile charger has been designed,
simulated and constructed to have a compact size at low cost and this
device has been evaluated to be efficient, reliable, portable, light-weight
and an economically viable solution to charging mobile phones . As a

27
country having abundance of sunshine, this device brings an alternative
to non-renewable energy sources that are highly expensive and not
readily available. This device encourages green technology. A fascinating
fact is the incorporation of a heat sink to absorb dissipated heat. This
device can be carried around in the pocket and can be used on the go. It
is undoubtedly the solution to carbon emissions from generators. The
limitation of this work is the unavailability of Solar Panel on Proteus
thereby making it impossible to have an exact software simulation; a DC
source is used in place.
The following recommendations have been made for future.
implementation and improvements:
• The device should be incorporated with several LEDs to indicate
the exact level of charge in the backup at all points. This can also
be achieved using an LCD as a display or indicating component.
• A higher power solar panel should be used in order to increase the
efficiency of the device, reducing the charging time. This can be
done by locally fabricating the panels and applying certain
photoconductive chemicals to the layers of silicon: doping.
