QUESTION 2

Phase diagram

i) There are several different transitions seen in the Ni-Ti phase diagram, and some of them
are crucial to the synchronisation of the Ni-Ti alloy. At this temperature, there a are the
eutectic shift (767 Celsius) and the transition from solid Ti to liquid Ti+Ti2Ni take place. It
is conceivable that Ti-Ni interaction may continue forever since it produces heat. This
shows that its reaction may begin at a certain temperature and that once it achieves that
value, it will keep running on its own even after the threshold has been reached. As a
consequence, combustion may be used to produce NiTi. But, the material must then be
heated in order to perform its own sustained synthesis, this results in the formation of a
transitory fluid. The phase that will exist in this alloy after it has cooled to room
temperature will theoretically be +Ti2Ni.
