SECTION 1
QUESTION 3

i. To make big houses or building construction, the design that I choose that use carbon
steel for the structure is Burj khalifa tower, there is a lot of carbon steel used and it is
the best material to make it assembled. Carbon has a least possible specified details
with alloy factor. This carbon steel is divided 3 categories which is:

1. LowCarbon steel
- It is contain 0.3 percent wt carbons and basically used in construction and bridge or any
structural body of cars
2. Medium carbon steel
- For the high strength that used for trains wheel, crankshaft and gears and any part of it,
medium carbon steel is the best. It contains 0.3-0.6 percent carbon
3. High carbon steel
- 0.6 to 1.25 percent estimate contain in highcarbon steel and there is used a spring, dies
and wire commonly

Additionally, other types of frames, such as modular, single slope, and more are used to
construct steel structures. Steel construction has become the most popular method of building
today since it is significantly simpler and takes less time than other materials, in addition to
having many other benefits. For the strengths of buildings is more relevant and stronger to be
used. For the prices, steel is cheaper than any construction. For the flexibility and ductility, it
can protect from the accidently happen or anything that can brings are disaster such as
earthquakes, tsunami and many more.

The advantages for this carbon steel are about the structure is less effected from any crash
happen. It also can safe a humanities life from disaster. This steel have are 2 yield points and
about the volume, it’s to be run by many more yield points. And for the first ductility it is higher
more than the second, less strain rate, low carbon steel is easier to handle.
ii. I’d choose spring for the example. The condition of spring preparations can be
hardened, flexible, high - temperature, or unprocessed. It is also has a medium to high
yield stress, medium to high carbon, or low alloy steel that has undergone heat and/or
mechanical processing. It is typically alloyed with metals and has a carbon content of
approximately 1%. This prevents it from permanently deforming and enables it to cause
serious deflection.

The heat treatment process known as reducing has positive effects on many
different kinds of steel. The Hardenability is among the most crucial factors when
choosing a material for a workpiece. Hardenability, also known as just the depth of
hardening, specifies the depth to which a metal can undergo deep hardening after
cooling from a high temperature.
