One of the most crucial decisions of my entire academics has been to pursue a degree in Public

Relations. Professionals in Public Relations and their work is something that fascinates me. Representing
and connecting the company with its potential clients and various related recurring opportunities
pushed me to walk one extra mile to enhance my knowledge and skills of the respective domain.

In school, I was in of the bright students. My presence of mind and sharpness are seen in my grades. I
was always in the top rankers of my school. When I was in 10th grade, I scored a total of 9.6 out of 10
CGPA. When I entered intermediate, I chose humanities as my primary and passed with flying colours. I
scored 94.5% in my 12th standard. However, when I was in 12th standard, I came to know about Public
Relations. The first time I knew about the domain was from a friend’s father. I found it very interesting,
and I started full-fledged research on it. With one month of research, I decided to pursue my bachelor’s
degree in public relations.

Through my research, I came to know about multiple aspects and little tit-bits about public relations.
During my research, I also figured out that various aspects are required to obtain a successful career
within public relations. These aspects are the principles being; an ability to multitask, superior verbal
and written communication skills, and managing people and tasks allowing time effectiveness. I came to
about these things through my thorough research in the domain.

I have been a very active student throughout my academics and haven’t missed a single opportunity to
enhance my knowledge and learning. I have developed considerable skills in the diverse environment
throughout my academics. In the year 2015, I got a work experience placement in Arbroath Herald. This
placement was in Scotland, and the role was of an assistant journalist. During this placement, I got
training on good verbal communication skills. This happened because of my job to interview a public
members and engage with them to gather content for various news articles. I took these skills forward
by writing independently for various lead articles. This article then got published in the various
newspaper too. I was also involved in writing emails and followed by telephonic interviews with the
editor. Later on, I also got placed for a part-time job as a counter assistant at Sainsbury’s. To keep up
with the demanding environment to keep up with the sales target and deadlines.

This is because of the revolution of social media. To compete and survive within it, PR corporations have
been forced to update and alter their strategies. This has become such a rigid option because of the
immense environmental complexity and change. I have studied media paired with English languages.
Due to this, I got an in-depth insight on a couple of things related to how traditional media has become
less effective on consumers. With the help of sociology, I learned how consumers and obtain goods via
new media.

I am the kind of person who strives to give his best and impact anything I do in life. I have been a part of
different activities throughout my schooling, be it sports, arts, or cultural activities when it comes to
extra-curricular activities. I have been representing my school’s football team being a captain and won
various competitions. I have also organized various cultural events with the help of my mentors. I am a
person who loves to meet new people and know the various culture they belong to. I have also
completed the NCS program in Portland. There I got various opportunities to meet new people and
make friends all around Devron. Being a person who always pushes himself out of his comfort zone, I
have tried various sporting activities like mountain biking, abseiling, paddle boarding etc.
I am the first person to apply to a university, and that too into the domain of public relations. I am
excited to get my undergraduate degree from your prestigious university. I am confident that I am a
candidate whose association with your university will be a fruitful one. Being an ambitious and highly
motivated person to succeed, I am looking forward to this fantastic opportunity. I kindly request you to
consider my candidature for the applied course.

I write this today in the hope that it will be received with an open mind and a generous spirit. I
am a finance major, with a background in manufacturing, attempting to substantiate my
possible worth to the field of communication. However, my subsequent hope would be that my
desire for experience in the field will be deemed more important than the focus of my studies
thus far. Throughout my academic and professional careers I have always taken an interest in
communications. Communication is an integral component in the inner-workings of all other
specializations and it will most definitely play a significant role in any career I might choose.
More specifically, I believe a master’s degree in communication from UNO would allow me the
opportunity to work in a field I have long desired to find a place in, broadcasting and
journalism. If I were allowed to pursue the aforementioned degree, a possible specialization in
New Media appeals to me. I have enjoyed all opportunities I have been afforded in the past
that allowed me expression of creativity in audio and visual communication. My work in sales
and marketing included the creation of video and print advertisements and the writing of script
for brochures and commercial shoots. My interest in journalism includes all manner of
publication, but news reporting and editorial writing are of particular interest to me. After
finishing a master’s in communication at UNO, I would hope to find work in television, or as a writer. I
am interested in the ongoing search for truth, and am often astounded by the scope and profundity of
the influence we allow popular media in the shaping our society and its views. During my lifetime I
would hope to be part of a movement that reforms our media. The role that popular culture plays in
some of the more prevalent issues afflicting my generation is of great interest tome. I am also interested
in researching why members of my generation have spent most of their formative years concerned
more with fitting in than establishing any sense of self-identity or creating any lasting change for
our posterity. I am aware that intensive study in a specialized field, especially one somewhat foreign to
me, will be a difficult task. But I strongly believe that those who have to work harder for something will
always have a greater appreciation for what it is they do. I believe myself to be a capable student in
any field, as I hope my academic record would prove, and I would be forever grateful for the
opportunity to prove so in the graduate studies program.
