A. Content Standards state, explain, andinterpret Parenthesis, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction (PMDAS) or
Grouping, Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction (GMDAS) Rule. (M5NS-Ic-61.2).
B. Performance Standards
Solve Equation based on PMDAS and GMDAS
C. Learning At the end of this lesson, the learners should be able to do the following:
Competencies/Objectives ● State the rules on the order of operations in simplifying expressions.
● Write the steps in simplifying expressions using the PMDAS or GMDAS Summative
rule. (M5NS-Ic-61.2).
● Write the corresponding mathematical expression of a problem involving
a series of operations.

IV. PROCEDURES
A. ACTIVITY (stimulation)

This is an individual activity.

2. Each student will complete the following table on a sheet of paper.

(2 × 3) + 4 2 × (3 + 4)

3. Ask students to solve the two given expressions separately.

4. State the steps in simplifying the expressions in each column of the table.

B. ANALYSIS (questions based on the activity given)

Compare your answers between the two expressions. Did you get the same or different answers?
1. Why do you think there are the same or different answers for the expression?
2. Which of the two methods of solving do you think is correct? Explain your answer.

C. ABSTRACTION (LESSON PROPER)

DEFINE AND DISCOVER

Order of operations – a set of rules that define the proper way of simplifying mathematical expressions with more than one type of operation

A widely known technique to remember the order of operations is using the acronym PMDAS or GMDAS: Parenthesis or Grouping, Multiplication
and Division, and Addition and Subtraction.

Example:
Consider the following mathematical expression.

10 ÷ (4 − 2) + 6

Applying the PMDAS rule to solve the expression, we have the following steps:
a. Perform the operations inside the grouping symbols first.
10 ÷ (4 − 2) + 6
10 ÷ 2 + 6
b. After simplifying the operations inside the grouping symbols, perform
multiplication and division from left to right.
10 ÷ 2 + 6
5+6
c. After performing multiplication and division, perform addition and
subtraction from left to right.
5+6
11
Thus, the correct order in solving this expression should be subtraction
(operation inside the parentheses), division, then addition

D. APPLICATION (QUIZ/ES)

Solve the given equation

1. 6+3(6x2) -1
2. 1. 16 − 8 + 9 × 3
3. (12 − 3) + 5 + 7
4. 5 + 2 × (4 × 6)
5. 8 + (6 × 10) ÷ 5
EVALUATION 1. Analyze and solve the following problem. (5 points)

Jorge spends ₱530 for the ingredients in making unsweetened cookies. He makes 70 pieces of cookies and sells 25 for ₱7 each and 45 for ₱12
each. Write the corresponding expression of the problem and state the steps in finding Jorge’s profit.
Solution and Answer:

Assignment/Agreement Solve this GIVEN EQUATION

Write the steps in evaluating the following expressions, then simplify. (15 points)
