MASTER PLAN
Steps of construction of building :

• Excavation
• Prepare foundation
• Frame work(Column & beam casting)
• Slab casting
• Brick work
• Plastering
• Flooring & finishing
WHY EXCAVATION ?

• This steps also includes testing of soil which further

helps in deciding the type of foundation suitable for

building.

• To prepare foundation.

• Sometimes it is done to prepare basement construction

• For leveling
WHICH FOUNDATION ?

• In this site, we use MAT or RAFT

FOUNDATION to spread the load from

structure over a large area.

• We use M25 grade concrete in foundation.

• And TATA/SAIL brand TMT bars of 500d

grade.

• Cover = 40-75 mm.

WHAT FRAME WORK ?

• Basically column and beam structure

combined called frame structures.
• In Column, we use M30 grade concrete and
500d grade TMT bars and having cover =
40-50mm.
• In Beam, we use same M30 grade of
concrete and TMT bars, having cover = 25-
40mm.
• The difference in technique of extension of
reinforcement is, in column we use rebar
couplers on the other hand overlapping in
beams.
• Figure shows the junction point of beam & column,
where we provide extras (extra reinforcement) to
provide better strength.
• Extras is mainly provided in bottom.
• Next figure shows us the beam reinforcement
details(given by structural engineer) , by which site
engineer check the reinforcement on the site.
• Similar plan is used to check column and slab
reinforcement detail.
PRECAUTION THAT SHOULD KEPT IN MIND WHILE CASTING SLAB

• Most importantly safety of worker/labor, proper safety

equipments and precaution should be mind while
casting on high floors.
• Safety belt should wear while casting overhanging
lentels and chajjas
• Shuttering should be checked before casting because
failure of shuttering cause some sever damages and
mishappening.
• Thickness of slab should be check
• All electrical fittings should be painted before casting
to identify the position.
WHY SCAFFOLDING/SHUTTERING ARE USED ?

Scaffolding : It is basically a workers platform around the

building to work at heights, it may be fixed or movable.
Shuttering : It is part of formwork, vertical temporary
arrangement which is arranged to bring concrete in a
desired shape.
• To support the platforms over which the workmen can
sit and carry the construction. (Scaffolding)
• To mould the concrete and helps to provide shape and
strength to freshly made viscous concrete.
TESTS PERFORMED ON CONCRETE

Tests that should be

performed on concrete
before using it on site :
• Slump test
• Compression strength
test
• Compaction test
WALL WORK, NOT BRICKWORK

• Major part of wall work is done by ACC

blocks(Autoclaved aerated concrete blocks) on the site
& remaining is done with red brick and fly-ash brick,
due to shortage of supply of ACC blocks.
• Band are provided in ACC wall-work to prevent cracks
in wall due to load because ACC block have less load
bearing capacity.
• Bands are like beam in wall either reinforced or plain
concrete to enhance the load bearing capacity of non-
load bearing wall.
PLASTERING

• Covering of the wall with cement mortar

and finishing the aesthetic aspects from
bulk of this stage.
• Before taking up the plastering work, it
is recommended to proceed with the
routing of the electrical cables and
plumbing.
• It is therefore important to plan and
decide the electricals and plumbing
points well in advance of this stage to
save time and effort.
FINISHING WORK

This brings us to the final stage of building construction viz Finishes. All the rest
of the work like carpentry, tiling, plumbing and electrical fittings and painting
comprise the finishing work. This can be done in any order as per the progress of
work. Putty work for smooth finish of the walls, texture painting, waterproof
painting etc can also be taken up now.

CONCLUSION

We can conclude that there is difference between the theoretical and practical work done. As
the scope of understanding will be much more when practical work is done. As we get more
knowledge in such a situation where we have great experience doing the practical work.
Knowing the loads, we have designed the slabs depending upon the ratio of longer to shorter
span of panel. We learn How to Communicate peoples on site and how to behave. We learn
about types of plans and how to read all these plan.
