Adverbs Adverbs describe adjectives and verbs, For example: Der Zug fihrt sehr schnell. ‘The train goes very fast. In this sentence, sehr (very) is an adverb and schnell (fast) is a predicate adjective. Note that they take no endings, but, in the comparative and superlative forms, endings are added much as they are in English: Das Schiff fihrt schnell ‘The ship goes fast. Der Zug flihrt sehneller. The train goes faster. Der Wagen féhrt am schnellsten, _ The car goes fastest. ‘The comparative is formed by adding -er to the ending of the stem.
