“Phases of Gymnastics”

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
After reading this information Sheet, you should be able to:

Gymnastic conditioning exercises are designed to help you strengthen your core, leg and arm muscles in
an effort to improve your flexibility and control during a gymnastics routine. Conditioning exercises for
gymnasts target the parts of your body you are specifically looking to exercise and ton

Phases of Gymnastics Program

1. Conditioning Program -Gymnastic conditioning exercises are designed to help you strengthen


your core, leg and arm muscles in an effort to improve your flexibility and control during
a gymnastics routine. Abs having core strength is crucial for performing on
various gymnastics apparatuses.
 The exercise are selected for the purpose of preparing the body for more complicated
movement and skills
 Exercises for warm-up can be used here
 Can be considered as “calisthenics”

2. Rhythmic Gymnastics- Rhythmic gymnastics is a sport in which gymnasts perform on a floor


with an apparatus: hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon or rope. The sport combines elements of
gymnastics, dance and calisthenics; gymnasts must be strong, flexible, agile, dexterous and
coordinated.
 Routines/exercises are accompanied with music
 Performed in a rhythmical manner and the movements arefollowing
 Includes free hand exercise and all exercises with the use of light apparatuses such as
wands, rings, hoops, ribbon.
3. Stunts- Stunts are activities in the forms of play that test one's self on flexibility, agility, balance,
coordination, strength and endurance. Stunts can also be activities that serve as conditioning
exercises and can also be introductions to some gymnastic skills and tumbling skills.
 Activities in the form of play and they test one’s strength, flexibility, balance and agility,
endurance and coordination.
4. Tumbling- Tumbling, sometimes referred to as power tumbling, is a gymnastics discipline in
which participants perform a series of acrobatic skills down a 25 meters long sprung track.

5. Apparatus-In competitive gymnastics—such as during an Olympic Games competition—the


term apparatus refers to a piece of equipment that's used in gymnastics, like the vault table or
the balance beam. Each gymnastics apparatus effectively serves as a medium on
which gymnasts demonstrate their strength and agility.
 Includes exercises done on the balance beam, valuing horse, parallel bars, uneven bars,
rings and the trampoline

6. Pyramid Building- GYMNASTICS AND ACROBALANCE/HUMAN PYRAMIDS. ... A


human pyramid is an acrobatic formation of three or more people in which two or more people
support a tier of higher people, who in turn may support other, higher tiers of people .
 This phase of the program makes a picture (mural) out of the body static positions. The
positions should be properly arranged and selected so that they form the shape of
pyramid.

PEOBJECTIVE: PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE: This aims to enhance the knowledge, skills, and creativity of the student in
terms on painting.
