National Productivity Council is an ISO 9001:2015 certified autonomous organization under


Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India. NPC is also an accredited agency of National
Accreditation Board for certification Bodies (NABCB) as Type A Inspection Body for undertaking
Food Safety Audits of Food Business Operators (FBOs) for Food Safety and Standards Authority of
India (FSSAI) and Inspection of Warehouses for Warehousing, Development and Regulatory
Authority (WDRA). NPC plays a catalytic role in productivity promotion by undertaking
consultancy, training and research assignments in frontier areas of Food Safety Management.
National Productivity Council is organizing a Two Days Online Training Programme on “FSSAI
(Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020” during 15 - 16 July, 2021 , Time: 11:00 AM – 01:30 PM
(IST).

About the Training:

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is a statutory body under Food Safety and
Standards Act, 2006. The Food Safety and Standards Act (FSS), 2006 is the primary law for the
regulation of food products. This act also sets up the formulation and enforcement of food safety
standards in India.

FSSAI has notified Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020,
prescribing the Labelling requirements of pre-packaged foods and display of essential information
on premises where food is manufactured, processed, served and stored. The Regulations are in
suppression of Food Safety and Standards (Packaging and Labelling) Regulations, 2011 and Food
Business Operators (FBOs) must comply with all the provisions of the Regulations after one year
from the date of Official Gazette publication. However, Chapter-3 regarding Display of
information in food service establishments should be complied with latest by 1st January, 2022.

As labels being the main link of communication between manufacturers and consumers, these
Regulations are having consumer friendly orientation and is certainly aimed at giving sufficient
information to the consumers to make informed and healthy choices promoting good eating
habits. The new regulations emphasise on enabling consumers to make informed choices about
their food purchases not only in the sphere of packaged food products but also on purchases
from restaurants and e-commerce platforms. The FSSAI has reconciled its Labelling Laws with
that in the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules which operate in general domain of
packaged products avoiding any room for ambiguity.

The prime objective & aim of this training programme is to provide information required to
implement this new regulation and to ease the work of professionals working in the Food
Industry for designing their labels as per the new regulations.
